Knots And Wng

I like this method. The only problem is I can't find a good product to give me nice results in the shower. The only thing that works is Kinky Curly Knot Today Curling Custard which takes days to dry even after I diffuse. What do you use as your styler?
I alternate between Studio 25 Gel (walgreens brand) and homemade flax seed gel. I like the results, but they're both a bit of a pain to find/make so I'm about to start looking around for alternatives.
So I just came back in here to say that I tired aloe vera gel. I used to use it all the time when my hair was shorter but stopped for some reason. Anyway, this one works perfectly with this method for me. No crunch and no terrible tangles to deal with.

Thanks for the heads up. Coincidentally I was about to dig up some aloe vera to try. I recently had some success with the Wetline Extreme gel, but I've yet to try it on a WnG.

I did wng's and wet buns frequently for an entire summer and fall a couple of years ago. I grew so much. I ended up bc'ing from an inch or two from waist last year. Four years down the drain. This time around I've sworn off unstretched, wet styles.
They work wonders, but what is growth if you don't retain...or worse, retain and have cut it all off?
Some swear by wng's, but for me they're the devil.
My hair is too coily, dense, and fine to get away with it without consequence.
I keep stretched styles that I do on damp (not wet) hair and am retaining every inch that I grow now.

I am a regular wng wearer and I love them, curl activating gel is what i used the most but I find it to be too lightweight/watery. Aloe Vera gel is my 2nd fave (depending on the brand). I need something with hold so ecostyler gel is my go to gel now, it's slightly thicker than aloe vera and clumps/defines my curls beautifully.

If my hair tangles or knots up while I'm wearing a wng they usually melt apart once sprayed w/water and applying conditioner. My issue was finding a way to detangle w/o causing excessive shedding & breakage. Now that I have found a better way to detangle it's all good.

I think I'm 7 years natural now I only used to get ssk when I used products with a lot of glycerin in the first year of my journey
My hair loves glycerine but the longer you leave it in your hair ie a week it gets sticky and if you have hair like mine that has high shedding you will def get ssk

I now only use Eco as a finisher product

My main styling product is keracare naturals twist and define cream I get the large bottle now with the pump

I leave my wash and goes for a week each time my hair is past waist length now and I have only ever done wash and goes or buns during my journey

My hair is thick like quest for the perfect Curl, but it is super coily in the back. I usually get tangles for one of three reasons:

(1) I didn't get product on all of my strands. Sectioning is key. I'm a lazy natural, so i typically use 4 to 6 sections and rake through enough product to give me good coverage. I don't shingle, but I do rake thoroughly.

(2) I used the wrong type of product. I need a Leave-in with good conditioning agents, like oyin hair Dew, koils by nature Coco-Aloe, or Curl Junkie Smoothing Lotion. I need a gel with good slip to spread easy but with enough hold to freeze my curls, like Uncle Funky's Daughter Curly Magic, kinky curly curling Custard or as I am Smoothing gel. I can't use ecostyler because it doesn't spread for me and takes too long to dry.

(3) I waited too long in between washes to detangle. My shed hair can cause a lot of problems and my hair will start to lock if I leave it too long. Optimally, I'd wash and detangle twice a week, but I can get away with once a week. If I wait two weeks, there are usually a couple large knots to work through.

Update: I am only using these two products from Hair Rules now and they work really well. The daily cleansing shampoo is a great detangler as well as the quench conditioner. Please use these products as directed on the containers.

If you order these products, order enough to last for a few months. They're only available online.

Now I do use a little quench conditioner when I'm detangling my hair right before I shampoo and I use it as a deep conditioner as well.

I hope this helps.
