Hi yesiam, thanks for your kind words. A hairdresser texturized my hair Dec 2003, i wanted more manegability and styling options. I was very unhappy after a corrective in feb, dried out my ends causing breakage, so i had a haircut. I hope to get back all my length by Dec 2004..wish me luck.

I'm almost 2 months post-relaxer, so is it okay then?. I won't be relaxing until December anyway.

I would imagine so Den....I haven't usedhenna for the reason you are hesitant - I've read that that the results are iffy if used on perviously chemically processed hair of any kind.

If you try it, please let us know how it goes. You could always do a strand test. I was considering henna recently and though I couldn't find any in time, Ihad planned a stand test - just to be sure....

Thanks for suggesting the strand test this will be vital in making my decision to colour or not. If the strand test does go to plan, i've got to decide what to use and how much of it? as you know that i have very thick hair already.

My most recent color job was with a product that mixes up a lot like henna - you add water (although my understanding is that henna can be mixed with things other than water like lemon juice, brewed coffee, or herbs steeped in water)...and I used two boxes of the product. I actually needed 3. Whatever you do, buy more than you need once you do the strand test - I suspect with the length and thickness of your hair you'd need at least a total of 10 ounces of product after you've mixed it. With my color one box called for 2 ounces of liquid and mixed up to about 3-4 ounces of product - for a total (remember I had two boxes) of 6-8ounces. I needed one more box to really have enough but I was able to make do.

I'm not sure if that experience was totally on point as to henna but it might help anyway. If you take nothing else away - my point is: make sure you have enough.

Not sure if you caught these already, but here are some sites that focus on henna. These women don't chemically straighten, but they so know quite a bit about the henna mixing process and different brands and such - so it may help as well.
