Ummm, is this really a big deal??? I don't think it's stealing information that publicly available on the internet. I understand not wanting to have other people use your words but it's all just information sharing... I dunno but I hope this doesn't turn into some nasty war of words over hair product reviews:ohwell: JMHO.

Honestly, there is a fine line here I think.

Yeah you can get data off the internet all the time – no biggie.

But, I am always weary of a website that has sections for reviews. It makes me wonder if they are honest reviews from that site’s customers. Or what about those sites that only show 5-star excellent reviews for everything they sell and offer – surely there are one or two people with different views.

I guess it is not a big deal really, but when it comes to ethical business, it just is not right.

I get that the site is trying to increase their sales by showing potential customers that their “current” (yeah right) customers #1, rave about these products, and #2 actively buy these products from them.’

A good business would not do it – point blank.

Wow! From a business standpoint I'm sure the owners of that site are happy we found out because now they're getting free advertising(too) courtsey of LHCF. Everyone who reads this thread will go over there....

I dont see the big deal either. If LHCF members are being honest about their review of products, then why be upset if the review is made public on another site.

The internet is not secret.........ppl lurk on the site all the time.

Just my opinion..........

I think it is a big deal. I find reviews of my products all over the internet (including here) and I don't use them. Unless someone gives me permission to use a review on my site I won't use it. I know it's the internet and it's public but it's a matter of ethics.

Okay, so I just looked at the site a little more. They are not selling the products just showing them for reviews and then showing a link where the product can be purchased.

Okay, so this is a bit different. I really don’t see the big deal with this. They could be getting referral credits and I see the nice Google ads on the side (that will get you some $$, too.

I am looking at the products listed. This JUST HAS TO BE a member/lurker of a hair board. I mean they have Qhemet products on there. No BSS has Qhemet on their site. (They misspelled it BTW) They are using the acronym ORS, which is not generally used IRL – just on hair boards. If you went into a BSS asking for ORS just like that, they would look at you like you are crazy.

I think this person knows the hairboards very well and may be a member here.

Again, I don’t see anything wrong with it since they are not selling the products. But I don’t see other review sites COPYING reviews. Look at Makeup Alley. People post their own reviews. But, I guess you have to start somewhere.

LOL

Okay they need to remove that motto for now.

Their honest customers just not her customers or members. Folks like to take short cuts and dip through alleys an shiznit! Some of these ladies with honest reviews here have shed hair, went semi bald in spots etc all for the betterment of us ova yonder! I need to give a review on how that one time I did try a product that was all the rave here turned my hair into wheat. :look: I wonder would someone snatch and post that on their new site? Dang I can't remember the name of that mess but its been discontinued and folks were paying triple double on Ebay and other places for it not to long ago.

It was that damn Surge!:wallbash: Mess had way too much protein for my thick locs darn me!:nono:

There is a bit of an ethical issue there. They are "honest" reviews however it is not a true cross-section of reviews. If you go to a site and pilfer only the positive reviews and then go back to your site and make it look like the people giving the reviews ALL rated the product a 7 and there were not in-between stats, then that does not have the ring of truth at all.

I agree... it's a fine line :perplexed

Don't be shocked my skinny birdlike a$$ a with skeletor neck. I could use some blacking out right about now too but at least I'm honest about it! :lachen: Some of that fat could go on my skinny a$$ neck ya know?

 Girl, shut up! That junk was so funny. . .*thinks about it some more*. . .:lachen:

And, once again, the review stealing is so not cool.

Slightly OT: I agree that the forum should def be all private. Not only bc of this, but it took me forever to join b/c I didn't see the point in paying $6.50 for hair care info that I could get for free just by lurking.

Just a thought...........how are we to get new member if the forum was private? If they cant find us by googling etc, how will anyone ever fine us?

I found the site by searching for a Mason Pearson brush........otherwise I would have never found it.

Quite possibly a member here. The topics listed look very familiar..the PRIVACY POLICY looks as though the owner has it covered even though it's uncomfortable to have one's screen name from chosen sites displayed.
Owner of the site..SPEAK UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:yep::yep:

That's why all the boards on this site should be private. I'll say it again.
I don't think so. What about the new ladies who want to look at the site before paying for it? I don't agree with what that site did, but, unless this site has a disclaimer and copyright over our posts, its nothing really that can be done.

I agree that the person frequent this site. She/He is probably a member...

If they are a member then all they had to do was send someone a PM before using their product reviews.

I'm not quoted but I still feel violated. But I guess its to be expected. This is the internet.

People gain enough knowledge about the site from the homepage. People join many things for much more than $6.50.

I actually think this is an issue for LHCF, how do you maintain an air of openness and perceived safety going forward?

The real question is, what is the privacy policy on LHCF? Do all of our posts become their property, or are they 'free for grabs', or are our posts rights reserved for us? If they are free for grabs - on a personal level, it's :perplexed, but legally, they are well within their rights.

There was another board doing something similar to this to another board that I was on - and it wasn't a person, it was actually a computer program scouring the internet/the forum, and copying information. Because of that sites privacy policy, the site as a whole was able to send a cease and desist order to the copycat website.

Girl, not a personal jab at all! That topic has come up soo many times before. I am sure it will come up again.

Please don't think my comment was to you. Threads about privacy issues and the things that happen because we are on the net, and very popular on Google :yep:, will always pop up, and be of interest to many.
