ok, i've been an LHCFer for years and i know i should know this, but i don't. what is a moisturizer? how does it differ from leave-in conditioner? and regular conditioner? or deep conditioner? what are some examples of a good moisturizer? (brand names are fine!)

how often do you/should you moisturize (especially natural 3b/c hair?)

do i moisturize the whole head or just my ends?

what's sealing? is sealing always done with an oil? and after moisturizing?

i need a heads up cuz this seems to be a huge thing that i know nothing about.

thanks

how often do you/should you moisturize (especially natural 3b/c hair?) As often as it needs to be. You have to listen to your hair. I have the same texture as you and I moisturize everyday or every other day

sealing locks in the mositure and keeps the shine. Its done with oil most of the time. You seal after you moisturize your hair HTH

(brand names are fine!) I luv elast qp..some ladies are raving about neutrogena triple moisture...i am goung to buy some tomorrow as a matter of fact...

how often do you/should you moisturize (especially natural 3b/c hair?) OK, welll i have a mix of 3c/ 4a hair( mostly 4a) , but i use elasta QP wich i absolutly luv and my hair stays soft and smooth..

what's sealing?when your hair is wet and you want to lock in that moisture..you do so with a oil, coconut...olive..ect...
is sealing always done with an oil?well i guess you could use a butter...some other ladies will chime in for u with diffrent stuff i am sure..
and after moisturizing? yes..

i need a heads up cuz this seems to be a huge thing that i know nothing about.

when you moisturize, are you just applying it to your ends? or all of your hair?

so leave-in condish is the same as moisturizer??

Yes it is:yep: But you use a leave-in after you wash out your conditioner:yep:

how often do you/should you moisturize (especially natural 3b/c hair?) I'm a 3c/4a- Daily- maybe twice a day if your ends are especially dry or exposed to extremely cold weather.

do i moisturize the whole head or just my ends? I moisturize my whole head. I use CFCG, Eqyss Avocado Mist and Premier Rehydrant Spray.

what's sealing? is sealing always done with an oil? and after moisturizing? Sealing is done after moisturizing and I use an oil or butter. I am partial to castor oil, turkey red castor oil, olive butter, jojoba butter, pistachio butter and shea butter. I concentrate on the ends when sealing.

thanks! and you only seal the ends, right?
I wanna know other people's moisturizing and sealing habits/products too. i've learned so much from this thread. my hair grew nice & long. but i had a hair setback in May (someone accidentally razored a bunch of my hair off my head) so now its in a bunch of short layers all over. except the back layer which is a 1/2-inch above bra strap length. ugh...setbacks!

i had no idea that people were moisturizing their whole head regularly. i was pretty much concentrating on ends. although, i do rub jojoba oil in my hands and spread it thru my hair. is that moisturizing???

I have a question about moisturizing too. Is it necessary to seal an oil moisturized such as ORS, or the Bronner Bros one with an oil? I have done it b4 with the ORS olive oil moisturizer and eneded up w/ a greasy mess.

Re: What's Moisturizer - How Do You Moisturize? (and Seal?)

ok, yesterday i used a spray leave-in that i like all over my head (i can usually use wet type products without having my hair revert any if at all.) the top looks the same but when i dig my fingers into the root, its a bit tangled.

PLEASE post up what products you guys are using as moisturizers. and how often you're sealing! I desperately need some other product ideas.

I moisturize my hair w/ a water based moisturizer (Alba Botanica Leave-in) and seal it w/ a oil based moisturizer(coconut oil) to lock in moisture. I do this everyday sometimes 2x a day. I oil my scalp w/ coconut oil only on wash day. Hope this helps.

I moisturize with Wave nouveau finsihing lotion and seal with Hot Six Oil. I do this 2x/day. I section my hair in 6 parts and I start to moisturize my hair from the ends up. Then I seal in sections too.

hope that helps

no it is not necessary to seal an oil based moisturizer.
