Thought you all might find this interesting...came in my email from Design Essentials. It may be redundant but I would rather have TOO much information than NOT enough...

Do Hair Vitamins Really Work?

Do hair vitamins really work? We must first understand the true definition of what vitamins are and how they can help us. A vitamin is an organic compound required as a nutrient in tiny amounts by an organism. Simply put, that means our body, inside and out, including our fabulous tresses (AKA the organism) needs nutrients (AKA vitamins) to be healthy.
The ongoing and never-ending trends of style and color-and let's not to forget those fabulous weaves-cause us to abjectly neglect our hair day after day. And when something is neglected we must supplement what has been lost. Hair vitamins are in fact a supplement that can help heal our abused hair. There are two ways to take hair vitamins; the first through ingestion of a capsule (swallowing), and secondly by applying a topical treatment directly to the scalp and hair, usually in liquid or cream form.
When supplements are needed for your hair, your optimal goal is to replenish. The key is to use vitamins while you are still in a healthy state so that they can work along with your daily diet routines. Supplementing should never be done alone to achieve ideal results.
If you are one of the thousands of people with unruly, fried or over processed hair, there are vitamins to save us! With so many types of hair vitamins out in the market it is often confusing to know where to begin. Which is more effective, the capsule form or liquid? Your answer depends on your needs, and that is something that should be discussed with your dermatologist and/or cosmetologist. Whichever you choose, be sure the vitamins include one or more of the following nutrients: biotin (also known as vitamin H and B7), vitamin A, vitamin C, and niacin.
The beauty of vitamins is that they are inherent in many foods. So just by eating those foods you can easily get the nutrients that you need. And even if you are not a big fan of certain vitamin-rich foods or you're a vegetarian, then hair vitamins in pill or liquid form would be ideal for you.
Biotin promotes cell growth, which is critical to hair growth. It is normally found in milk, liver and egg yolk, but is readily available in vitamin supplements found in your drug or health food store.
Vitamin A is excellent for maintaining healthy, glowing skin. People tend to forget that the scalp is skin and confuse it with hair. In order to have healthy hair, you must first start with a healthy scalp, and vitamin A is a great choice for the scalp! Vitamin A can be found in pumpkin, collard greens, and peas, just to name a few.
Vitamin C is a great antioxidant and a substance in many foods that prevents or slows the damage to our body. It is also the most widely taken dietary supplement.
Last but not least, niacin is a fatty acid, which can be found in sweet potatoes and avocados. Niacin is a great scalp stimulator and also a wonderful treatment for your hair!
You may have gotten hungry discussing all these great nutrients! The bottom line is hair vitamins really can work, but only in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle and consistent diet routines. No matter which vitamin you choose, remember, nothing beats a good diet, lots of water, and plenty of rest. Only then can hair vitamins work wonders for your hair.
