Bantu Knots

Ok, I've had my braids down for about a month. I am tired of hair. I'm thinking about doing bantu knots. A friend told me that her hairdresser sectioned off her hair, and put the sections in small black rubber bands. Then she twisted and secured the knots. Is this ok to do? I always thought rubber bands were hair breakers. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You don't have to secure the section with a rubber band. I've done this to my daughter's 4a hair. I made my section (enough for a medium-sized braid) and twisted the whole section, then twisted the section around itself to form a knot. Since the ends were pointed, I could tuck them in the knot itself. The bantu knots stay up about a week.
