Blow Dryers

i want to have the option of using a blow dryer in moderation, but first I have a few (ok a little more than that)

questions.
Does the type of blow dryer make a difference? By type, I mean are some brands more professional than others? What are the different types of attachments and does it matter what type or whether you have an attachment at all.
How do you go about blow drying? In sections? If so, how do you part?
What exaclty is a diffuser, how does it attach and can it attach to every type of blow dryer or are there different fits? What are the benefits of a diffuser?
How long does it generally take for you to blow dry your hair?

I don't plan on using this often, when I do I wanna do it right to get the maximum results.

I haven't used my blow dryer in months except to speed up my air drying by blowing air on my wrapped hair for a minute or two. I prefer the ones that have hi and lo air flow settings and warm and cool heat settings. Solano is a popular brand, but I can't see myself spending $80+ for a blow dryer... I have the Helen of Troy Gold Series Professional Turbo Dryer. I straightened in sections with the pick attachment. It took me about 20-30 minutes to blow dry my relaxed hair.

I have a Conair Quiet Tone 1875 Diffuser dryer, but I haven't used it yet. You can also buy a little sock type type thing to slide over a regular blowdryer. The sock was $5 at Sally's and the dryer was $8 at Big Lots. I bought the dryer!

Diffusers gently dry hair without blowing out the style. They (supposedly) dry the top and bottom layers of hair at the same time. They add volume and keep curls from going flat and frizzy.

IMO, you should avoid the really hot (1600 watts+) "styler/dryers" that blow hot air onto your hair while you "comb" it. The hot air is just too close to the hair for me.

I had a Vidal Sasson or Gold n Hot (maybe it was Solid Gold...) and had to replace the comb attachment every few months because the teeth were melted.

Does anyone else get frizzy,dry, big hair that can't be straightened with an iron after they blowdry? Does this mean I need a heat protectant?

BUMP...I would like to know too! /images/graemlins/smile.gif I have been without heat for months and was thinking about blowdrying my hair on low heat which is like blowing air on my hair to dry it... /images/graemlins/confused.gif
