ALL THAT GLITTERS AIN'T GOLD.
Forget that mineral oil doesn't offer anything nutritive
to your hair, it's also a known carcinogen. Relaxers
haven't even been proven to cause cancer. The
government doesn't regulate cosmetics, we are
pretty much A** out when it comes to hair care products.
Any Tom Dick or Harry can concoct a cosmetic and sell it
to you and put whatever they want in it... I mean just
take a look on the internet...
I say why put something on your body or skin that doesn't
add to the health of it when there are better alternatives
like herbs and fruit oils and whatnot.
I just think companies should be held more accountable
for the products they sell us... don't you???
I go to the Asian beauty supply stores and 90% of the products
have mineral oil in it... who uses this? Black Women.
I have nothing to benefit by sharing this with you,
only good karma.
I honestly didn't know any of this so I thought it only human
to want to pass it on.
I throw away the most dangerous products
and I am always looking for healthier alternatives.
Maybe you already know and don't care.
Maybe you don't want to know.
Maybe now you can make more informed decisions
and think twice before purchasing products...
knowledge is power.

The mineral oil used in beauty products was not the mineral oil tested and quoted in this study. The unrefined oils such as those used industral services were the ones to have cancer causing agents. The actual study actually says that there has been no cancer link in humans or animals in the refined mineral oils used in cosmetics.

Thanks, dicapr. I think it's important to highlight this distinction. I'm not defending or bashing products with mineral oil; I simply don't want to be influenced by negative propaganda when all of the facts haven't been identified..

I'd like to know how you could do it. Almost all the products on the market have mineral oil in it.:ohwell: I've come to realize that a lot of products that work for me have the dreaded mineral oil, petrolatum, just to name a few items. What products can you suggest that can help me out.

OMG... I remember this post... I was so militant back then...
I still don't use mineral oil, but my attitude now is:
to each her own

eh... damn near everything is a carcinogen. we come into contact with hundreds of things a day (and even eat some of these things) that could potentially cause cancer. i dont think it matters that much. cancer is a spontaneous mutation of the cells. it could happen if you avoid every carcinogen known to man. if i knew a product could cause cancer, i would avoid it. but if i had already been using it, i probably would keep using it or t least try to wean myself off and find a better product. but i wouldnt be like "omg this could cause cancer OMFG GET IT AWAY FROM ME."

but seriously, pretty much everything is a carcinogen.
