What does it mean to be a faithful servant?

Well first of all, you have to be a servant. Many people have the idea that to be called into ministry, they have to do something "great." But, what far more impresses God is faithfulness and having the same mind as Christ had to do service. Yes, Christ healed the sick and cast out demons. But he also washed the feet of his disciples...a menial task. If we want to serve, we have to serve as Christ did by focusing on the needs of others no matter how small the task have seen. It is far less important to be great, than faithful! We will be well surpised when we get to heaven, to see who will be greatest in his kingdom. Remember the Kingdom of God is the reverse of the Kingdom on earth. Those who are first who are upfront here will not be in heaven. I believe the greatest in God's kingdom will not be those who are up front and seen. It will be a lot of ordinary people. Caretakers of the ill, those who expend their lives on the missions fields, those who seek justice for the disabled. People like that. Whatever we do, no matter what the task is, we have to do it with faithfulness.

Do you have the scripture to support this?

A lot of us have aspirations to do something great for God's kingdom. But God's definition of greatness is not the world's definition of greatness. We see a lot of tv ministers and we may think they are great because they have large ministries or have spiritual gifts. But that is not how God defines greatness. God's definition of greatness is how how well you function as a servant.

John and James, Son's of Zabedee asked Jesus if they could sit on the throne next to him in glory. Jesus answered them and told them what was required. When the disciples overheard them, they asked who shall be greatest. Christ said,

Mark 10:43-44
Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all.

Colossians 3:3-4
Your old life is dead. Your new life, which is your real life—even though invisible to spectators—is with Christ in God. He is your life. When Christ shows up again on this earth, you'll show up, too—the real you, the glorious you. Meanwhile, be content with obscurity, like Christ.

Some people will not just be faithful on this earth, some people will be great. But that should be used as a platform for Christ's glory or to accomplish his will. There are well known bible heroes and there are less well known heroes. Regardless we have to remember that the kingdom is opposite.
