I Wish I Would Have...

BESIDES finding LHCF a LOOOONG time ago, what things do you wish you would have done/not done 5-10 years ago that had you and your hair fighting on the daily?

I wish I would have learned about roller sets.

I would I would have left alone that brown protein gel...thinking it was cute to have my hair slicked back so tight I could blink properly.

I wish I would have listened to my mother when she said "boys don't care if it's real or fake - as long as it looks nice". :sigh:

I wish I would have let go of that notion that my confidence is tied to having long straight hair.

...although my hair loves me for it, my bank account wishes I would have never experimented with hair products. PJ'ism is worse than crack because hair products are LEGAL!!!

PJ ism

Went natural earlier in life

Lettin hairdressers perm me bone straight:spinning::drunk:

Co-washing, i would do it sometimes, but i was told i would wash out the "perm"

Learned about the silk scar sooner

Learned about the protein mositure balance sooner , instead slapping any ol conditioner on my head

Rollerset instea of blowfrying back in the day

.....never gotten a relaxer when i went off to college

.....learned to deal with and appreciate my natural texture.

**not allowed stylist to cut my hair after every relaxer:wallbash:

**stayed out of the salon PERIOD:rolleyes:

...learned about texlaxing and stretching relaxers, long ago.
...learned about protecting and moisturizing my ends to retain length.
...been more gentle with detangling and handling my hair.
...covered my hair with satin or silk at bedtime.
...never, never, ever used direct heat on my hair.

But (on a positive note), I thank God that I know what to do now! So, hipbone length, here I come!:yep::grin:

Co-signing! :yep:

...stopped worrying about growth and focused on retention
...never let a stylist pull the perm all the way through
...started regular deep conditioning earlier
...stopped combing and brushing dry hair so much
...washed and conditioned more often
...done monthly protein treatments when my hair was breaking or feeling weak

Never worn my braids too tight (I'd still have all my edges)

Been more patient and gentle with my hair (Hair would be longer & healthier)

Never over-processed my hair when it was relaxed (Would've never had relaxer damage and broke-off hair)

Learned how to manage my natural hair sooner

Never let a jealous, lazy, or unknown stylist touch my hair (Hair would be classic length by now)

Never let a stylist man-handle my hair (Same as above)

Always deep conditioned with every shampoo

Never trimmed as much as I did last year (Hair would be waistlength or close to it by now)

  • I wish I hadn't relaxed my hair again after going natural in the 90s.
  • I wish I had focused more on retaining length.
  • I wish I had never met the blowdryer ... EVER!
