hey everyone... i was recently in New Orleans and was walking around looking a HOT MESS with my hair. The humidity was HORRIBLE. D.C. is generally humid too but for some reason this year it seems worse for my hair.

any insights you can share on adapting your regimine to handle humidity are most appreciated!

I used the Frizz control serum by John Frieda or the Sally's brand of the serum and/or spray. Both worked well for me so long as I followed the instructions and applied in the shower while my hair was soaking wet.

Hope this helps.

definetly something to control the frizz. Frizz Ease Relax products help a lot, also Lanza Urban Elements Hair Polish is good too.

I remember a forum a while ago when someone mentioned using a product called Rusk Smoother . It's a leave in conditioner. I think the person was from NYC or someplace on the east coast so I think the humidity is relative. I havn't tried it yet, but I'm going to buy it soon (on May PJ challenge)

I iive in Louisiana and I find that Redken Heat Glide serum prevents my hair from frizzing. Aveda AntiHumectant works well too.

I used to have terrible issues w/the frizzies. My hair would get bigger and bigger during the day and immediately double when I hit my front door if moisture was present in the air. I got rid of my humidity issues by fixing what was wrong w/my hair.

This is from the Ouidad site: Why does moisture wreak havoc on dry hair? The typical curly hair shaft is either empty or full of gaps where moisture and nutrients have escaped. Humidity fills the strands with moisture, forcing the cuticle to bulge open, creating a ruffled effect from the tiny baby hairs lifting along the hair shaft. The only kind of "good" moisture is the kind that remains self-contained within the hair shaft.
****
By using heat, for at least 20 mins. w/conditioner I stopped the moisture from leaving my hair shaft and haven't had an issue w/humidity since.... not even in the rain. And I didn't use her products, what I used I used w/heat. For more tips from Ouidad check out her site: Ouidad's Tips & Advice

I use Aveda Anti-Humectant which really helps a lot. I also airdry my hair and wear braidouts, which I feel works with the humidity.
