"Meccabees" or "The Book of Meccabees"

Can someone please explain to me where this comes from? Is it tied only to the Catholic Church?

As far as I know, the books are only in the Catholic bible, First and Second Maccabees, but according to the story in wikipedia, they're also in the Hebrew bible (I wasn't aware of this.)

The story really did happen, it was a revolt, which happened during the 400 years of prophetic silence.
