Does anyone know of a remedy to help my sore scalp. It's been sore since February and although I see improvement in hair growth, no matter what I try, I cannot remedy this situation. I take hair vitamins, use all natural products on my hair. I am gentle with my hair, and my scalp is always clean. Pleeeeeeeezzzzze Help. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for your feedback.
I'm a natural and do not relax my hair. It seems that since I've been taking better care of my hair, it's been growing and looks a lot better but the scalp is so tender that it's hard to sleep on, and tender to touch.

Are you twisting/cornrowing/braiding/pulling back etc too tight? My scalp felt tender when this used to happen but now I mainly wear two strand twists my scalp doesn't hurt.

High Priestess,

I am with Nessa. You described it as "tender." But, does it feel like a dull ache all of the time or do you have to touch it for it to feel sore?

I'm just concerned with the length of time.

Please let us know.

I always have sore to the touch scalp in this area on my scalp.. i've asked several people to look at it and they all tell me my hair is extra thick in that area. It also grows in extra dense in that area.

If you are into home made remedies, I would suggest you try
2 oz's or so of olive oil
1tbsp of honey ( i use the cheap kind b/c it melts/blends better with the oil)
warm that together.. then mix in a teaspoon of cinnamon
and apply the mixture to your scalp. I found it very soothing, and the effects lasted until my next wash 4days later. If you try it please post what you feel about it.

How does sore feel like. I want to know.

My scalp is soooo sore that it has sores in it...especially the back. I just went out today and bought aloe vera gel and gently put it on the sore spots. It's so sensitive that it hurts to touch.

No. I do not braid or twist my hair. When I have to go into the pubilc, I pull it into a ponytail (semi-lose in a small sconchi), and wear it out. Sometimes I wear the ponytail in different positions. I have a lot of itchy dryness, although I condition the hair well.

Yes. I agree. It's been way too long to suffer this way. When I sleep, I have to choose which side is less sore because it feels like pins and needles if you will. I don't get headaches from it, but very sore and itchy scalp. I wonder if maybe I'm scratching it in my sleep unconsciously. Maybe I'll cut my nails tonight.

When I go into public...even grocery shopping, I wear a clip on or draw string ponytail. Recently I've been wearing the ponytail in an up do so that It will be less stressful on the scalp. Also, I don't always wear the ponytail in the same position. My hair has grown so much because of LHC with protective styles. I take out the clip-on or drawstring ponytail and wear it down at home. It doesn't seem to matter how I wear it, and I don't leave in the ponytail when I'm at home.

From all of the information you presented, it seems that this might be serious..Would you consider going to see a dermatologist..

Do you moisturize your scalp with oil or anything daily? Perhaps you might try that with one of the natural recipes on the Hair Recipe Board. That might help..

Here Is A First Aid

Petroleum jelly (or the medicated petroleum jelly) may heal your sore scalp. And if it is still, use the witch hazel or astringent as Sea Breeze.

I seriously thought about that last night. But since I used the aloe vera gel on those sores yesterday, it seems to be relieved...at least for now. If this problem persists, I may have to do your bidding.
Thanx

I'm such a chicken when it comes to sea breeze on my scalp because I have to dilute it whenever I decide to use it on my face and it still burns a little. I have such sensitive skin. Is witch hazel safe for the scalp? (because I never used it before on the scalp). I mean no disrespect, but I don't think petroleum products will work...but I may consider it as a last resort.
Thanx.

Don't put petroleum on your scalp. It will only clog your pores and how else will your sweat and dirt escape? Petroleum will only make it worse. Witch Hazel is good.

I guess desperation will do this to us.

Re: Here Is A First Aid

HP Cryson is right, stay away from the Petroleum, there's nothing in it to remedy any ailment IMHO and will do nothing but clog up the pores.

It's now May and seeing as this has been on going since feb I think it's worthwhile seeing a scalp specialist, either dermatoligist or tricholigist (hair & scalp specialists). I would have said by the sounds of it you have really thick fast growing hair, but as you've mentioned you have sores on your scalp, that's the worrying thing.

Keep us posted.

Re: Here Is A First Aid

based on the amount of time that you say your scalp has been sore, i really think you should see a dermatologist.
