Sisterlock Support Thread (micolocks/braidlocker welcome too)

Hello ladies! I came back in this thread to update. My installation is underway and I am working on uploading the pictures I have taken so far to my fotki.

:grin::grin::grin::grin:

Hello fellow sisterlockers.

I've dropped in to put a few update pictures here. I've not been very creative with the hair styles lately as I've either been at work, sick (mold), on the road, or moving (mold).

Attachced are pictures of my experiement with KCCC done this week!!!!!

The 1st is my hair right after the applications. I did this at night then twisted the hair and went to bed. (with a stocking cap).

The 2nd is my bun for work, the 3rd is my lack of curls after the bun at the end of the day.

The 4th is me taking down the twists/rollers after misting my hair with water putting them into about 8 ponies with twists'n curlers on the ends.

The 5th is of my hair after I've taken them all down and somewhat styled them. The hairzing is a blessing of a find, I have all 4 and love them!

IMHO whether you are transitioning or are considering SLs but have permed ends this stuff is MAGIC!!!!!! If you are all natural and are worried about the frizzy ends after having these installed, again, ...this stuff is MAGIC, apply it to the curly ends and you'll love the curl definitions. KCCC is MAGIC (and it's black owned!!!! )

Update, I can't believe it's been 2 months since my last update!!!!

My SisterLocks AND my permed ends are still co-existing, and with proper moisture, planned, and careful manipulation you can hold on to "both textures". Which proves that "RETENTION" is the key to obtaining growth.

One of the pic shows my current "protective" Style, ....next time I'll brush the edges before I take a pic of my lovely Nape.

I flat ironed to do a Length check .... I'm excited....."Can I claim APL :cup: yet?"

Hello ladies! It's been a while since I updated. It's been a little over 3 months for me and it's going. My hair has had its moments and I'm trying to be patient with the process but it is definitely a process. The locks along my hairline and the sides of my hair keep coming undone because my curl pattern is so loose right there and the hair is so soft.

My consultant has had to re-install those locks about 4 times now. I have been going to her every week so she can monitor them and retighten them before they unravel completely. This time she only had to do a few on one side of my head, only because I have discovered that I will have to just clean my scalp instead of washing my hair in the shower. I have also been using a shower cap when I bathe because even the humidity will cause the locks to come undone.

She is using the tightest locking pattern in those areas but no no avail. This wednesday when I went to see her she was like, "these locks are acting like they want to stay this time!" We were both shocked. She told me to call her after I wash my hair next week so we can go from there.

I have maybe one or two that look like they want to slip out so I'm trying to be real careful with those.

I have been using a small baby toothbrush and a scant amount of shampoo in the tootbrush to clean my scalp with. Then I blot my scalp with a wet washcloth to get the soap off. My scalp still itches in those areas (ironically that is the driest part of my hair throughout this process) but I have to do what I have to do.

My hair is starting to lock in some places and has thickened up like crazy. I just want the ones in the front to stay put already!

I do have a few more pics to upload to complete this month of updates, but you guys can head over to my fotki to see how my locks have been progressing.

Ivonnovi and Netta1, your locks are doing great! I love those pics.

Thanks to all who've shared photos of your progress--your hair looks great!

Apologies in advance if this is a dumb question--but are locs not advised for those w/softer hair textures (like you describe on the sides and front)? Or is it just more challenging for people w/that type to loc their hair?

Also for those whose hair is in more advanced stages....how does it feel? I mean, does it feel like it does to wear braids--just all the time?

Also how does the texture change feel, once the hair locs? Does it feel different to the touch? Just wondering how one can tell that the hair has loc'd (versus hasn't yet loc'd)?

Anyone's hair can be loc'd. Finer/Softer textured hair may take much longer to sucessfully loc (I've heard some report 2yrs for some of their hair to loc).

Or is it just more challenging for people w/that type to loc their hair?
It's more of a challenge, this person will need more "patience" with the process.

The feel of my hair varies. New locs are stiff, they relax as the "relax" As I run my hair down the length it's textured but soft/smooth. Not as luxurious as loose naps though.

Loc'd vs notloc'd is a visual thing and a process. Most folks know where they are in the process NOT all of an individual's Locs will mature at the same time. I'n only 5 months into this process & I cheat be using moisture.
With all that said check out the SisterLocks website for more info on the locking process. www.sisterlocks.com

Ivonnovi, your SL's are coming along G.R.E.A.T!!! Looking at your pics make me miss mine....but I'll live vicariously through your experience .

Just posting a link to a Loc video that I found difficult on the ears and eyes!

I know what he means.....but da-yum.

Mommas pa-lease teach your children to speak "properly" Hell I don't know if he's thinking of getting his Tips or his Tit's colored. ...and the "thoughtful" scratching....does scratching reallllllyt help the thoughts come clearer or faster?

End-of-Nov updates.

I have the crown in a "sock" enhanced bun, and the back has been flatironed. My permed ends are still healthy (imho). This might be my signature style for a while.

I go for my sisterlock consultation next week and I'm very excited about it! :happydance:

My hair seems to want to loc up anyway and detangling has always been a pain in the you-know-what.

So here's hoping that all goes well!

^^^ You're SL's are very pretty. I have decided on the more traditional cultivated locs.

My journey has just begun.. but I'll creat a post to constantly update.

Hello ladies! Welcome to all the new lockers. Thefineprint your hair looks great. Yesterday marked my one year milestone with my sisterlocks. The front is still a challenge but I'm still trekking along on my journey. This hasn't been the easiest year for me to get through for my hair, but I made it.

I haven't updated my album yet, but I'll work on that in the coming weeks. I can't wait to see what my hair looks like another year from now, and so on.

Happy locking journey to everyone, especially the newcomers. We all need to stay encouraged and help each other.

I planned to get sisterlocks on my 4 yr nappiversary (Oct 2011). I'm a little nervous about it since I like to do my hair different ways. But I hear with sisterlocks there's versatility. I'm still doing my research and reading up on it so I can know what to expect if I decide to get them done.

I have been thinking about getting sisterlocks off and on for almost 10 years. The feeling has been getting stronger. Keep posting pictures, Ladies.

Bumping for newbies who may be considering sisterlocks! I have some new pics in my fotki but i'll post a comparison here

The first year was a little rough but now I love my hair!

Beautiful hair ladies!

I've been thinking about sisterlocks, but I'm too all over the place. When my hair is blown out I miss my curls. When it's curly I want to straighten. I know that not being able to have my hair loose will drive me up the wall. Maybe one day though...

:bump: After being locked almost 4 years my crown is still thin. TOO THIN/SPARSE for my confidence, meaning I never wear my hair down becaue I'm too self-consious about the sparseness. See page 1 for my starting pictues, not much has changed as far as the grid goes; however the individual locs did plump up.

It is taking me forever. My hair all unpermed now is almost armpit length. I have had almost 450 locks so this will take more than a minute. When I get a chance, and clean up my bathroom I'll take some pics of the process.
