Whats the Dominican salons secret!

I wish I had one in my area so that I can get the same bounce, swang, growth and silkness like those that go.

So whats their secret. All the ladies that I have seen that get their hair done all look alike from behind with that hair that look like fine silk and very healthy. Is it the products and techniques? I know that they do rollerset, rollerwraps and blowouts, but my oh my the hair comes out beautiful everytime from what I have seen.

I think it is the rollerset then the crazy hot dryers and that roundbrush! My stubborn hair didn't stand a chance.... smooth sleek and bouncy .

Their technique is pretty simple but I do believe its due to the products they use and the blowdryer. They dont put alot of products in your hair and for the most part the ones they do use arent expensive at all so its a plus.

I dont know about damaging because I have never been, but I think if you went once a month it would be fine.

Yes it can be damaging ....they use a lot of heat to the point that you will see smoke coming from the dryers.

There is really no big secret. When I used to go to the Domincans they would wash, deep condition, rollerset and then do the blowout. The swang is achieved because they put no products in your hair that will weigh it down. The bad thing is when I used to have the blowouts they would use no heat protectant. I can achieve the same swang at home just by washing and rollersetting my hair. Now that I am 23 weeks post all I have to do is flatiron my roots and wrap. My hair still has the swang PLUS body.

It's definately a mix of products, technique with that round brush and the dryer. Now, my girl does not put the heat high at all to get my hair straight. I never see smoke and my hair never, ever smells like it either. Afterwards, she puts in a great serum on my hair and my hair is absolutely beautiful.

As far as heat damaging to my hair....so far so good. I don't have any heat damage at all. My ends are tight and my strands are strong. I can't speak for everyone else though.

Wow some of the dryers get that hot, oh my thats not good.
It good that you have found someone that dont use the high heat and also use a serum on your hair when using the dryer.

I didnt know that they used heat to the point that it got that hot, but I think I would have to agree with you. I would like the average swing also.

Yeah - its pretty much all about the heat and minimal products BUT... i have just gone for rollet sets and wrapping and my hair still looks great when i unwrap the next day. I just think they are really good at rollersetting and used to dealing with 'hard to manage' hair. I see ALOT of women come out of the salon with long hair, despite the heat. And when i was 'less than hair educated' i even let one of them blow dry my hair from wet! and never had any damage (my hair was natural at this time).
I've been to white, black and even asian stylists and have always been disappointed. The dominicans do a good job and they are so much more affordable - you cant lose. Once a month seems good to me, but i personally dont think you need the blowdryer for swing.

I am transitioning and thinking about getting a blow out once a month...but I am so scared of damage. I ahve only had one and she used ALOT of heat. I wonder which is more damaging an occasional flat iron or the blow out/roller set?

I had my first visit last week and my hair is gorgeous. As far as the heat protectant, the stylist had a bottle of Beyond Zone heat protectant, I brought my own and they used it.

Now just getting rollersets and wrapping thats not bad at all, but the heat ya, the only time I think I would get a blowout if when I couldnt stand the NG any longer.I heard that they can rollerset real well and the prices you can beat at all. They seem like they are really great at growing the hair very well with the techniques and products that they use and I guess just knowing how to take care of the hair overall.

I went for my first "Dominican experience" a few months ago and I was floored at how soft and swingy my hair was. It has never felt that good in my entire life.

I haven't been back primarily because none are covenient to where I live. What I did NOT like about my experience was they were very rough with combing through my hair which for some reason gets extremely tangled when wet no matter what conditioner is being used . They also used a very small toothed comb to roller set and I lost a lot of hair.

What I did like and to this day can not figure out is why for the week after getting my hair done, I lost only a few strands of hair TOTAL. Can someone please explain how their techniques are able to accomplish this???

ITA my hair hates the blowdryer and it ends up better and with more swang without it. Its all in the products.

I think that the products carry some weight, but the heat plays a factor as well. For me the key is larger rollers,using the products sparingly, and thin sections of hair. Smaller, thinner sections=breezy, light rollersets.

i only let them blow dry the roots and then wrap so for me it was the PIBBS dryer (yes I checked when I sat down lol ) and the tension they used to set my hair on large rollers.

I bring my own products usually.

I did look at all the stations teh last two times i went and took note of the products they used.

One of the products they used on my roots was by Kuz. It worked wonders. She put a comb in and held the blow dryer over it and it was straight and shiny.
