So, I've been relaxed for most of my life, so I don't actually know my texture, so I've been inspecting my parent's (my mom is natural) hair to see if that could give me some insight on how mine will look when its full natural! And that just had me wondering how many of you guys take directly from your parents hair texture? Since I know a lot of you long haired ladies in this forum love to be called "mixed" by the uninformed:grin:
just curious:drunk:

My mom has 3c/4a hair with 3b in the back. It's very soft and not coarse at all.

My dad has extremely coarse 4b hair.

I have mostly 4a hair with some 3c, mostly in the back. And it's very coarse.

I got hair genes from the both of them, but my hair is pretty different from each of them individually.

My hair is all mixed up so I think I get it from both of them. My father had straight but wavy hair so probably in the 2's. I can't figure out what kind of hair my mother has. Her hair is straight with no real curl but nappy if that makes sense coz I don't know. I haven't figured out what the heck I have.

i don't, actually. cuz my Granny (great-grandma) and my grandma look white, my mom is very light and i am just a few shades darker than her. i've had people giving me crap all my life about this mixed sh*t. i know they don't always mean harm by it but... i find it insulting... :look:

Daddy has 4b hair. i don't know what texture my Mom is... but it's a loose texture that apparently poofs if she doesn't relax it (and she only relaxes 3-4 times a year, i can barely tell where her NG is). seems like my sis and i are exactly in the middle when you think of it that way (4a-ish). but my mom's mom also has 4b hair, all her brothers had 3c/4a hair and my Granny had 3a hair (yes, they all had the same dad). don't know what kinda hair my great-grandpa had, he went bald early and kept his head shaved (going by pics, he passed away when my mom was 12).

my SO has almost straight hair... seriously like type 1. but it still poofs when longer, i've seen pics of him as a kid with a fro. and our son has 4a/4b. you never know how those genes are gonna dictate your hair type...

My mom's hair is straighter than mine, much stronger and thicker/coarser -- she is a loose 3c or perhaps even 3b. I think that my hair is more like my father's but he died young so I am only going by the pictures and my paternal grandmother (she has very, very fine, frizzy, hard to straighten 3c/4a hair which is like mine).

my dad is 2c /3a and my mum is 3c= me who is 3b/c

i got my mother thickness but my dads hairs silkiness and the two textures mixing up means that my hair is the out come of their hair if their hair was to have a baby:grin: which it kinda did

but my brothers and sister hair texture ranges from 4a/3c to 3b/3a i think some of us got out grandparents hair texture.

My parents have type 4 hair, as do I.

Nothing exotic about it, just plain old negro hair!:lachen:

Same here. Almost my whole family, including 1 generation removed or across (like cousins, I mean) are of the non-curling variety. I mean, you know, of the cloud variety.

i remember my natural texture coz i was natural all my life till i was 11. my hair is 4a, my mum is also 4a but i dunno what my dads is seeing as his hair is always cut low.

My hair is somewhat of a mixture of my mom's and dad's. My mom’s hair is 3b fine and my dad’s hair is 4a thick. So I’m somewhere in between 3c/4a combo medium thick. :)

.

thats because it is insulting! the underlying sentiment is that "you look black, but I'm sure you wouldn't have such nice hair if you were fully black." :nono:

um... well my father is definitely in the 4b range, and my mom doesn't have a natural texture, because she relaxes every 3.5 weeks.

both my brother and my sister (who has dreadlocks) are definitely 3c, and i'm happily 4a.

My dad's hair is very soft and curly. One sister and one brother got his hair. The rest of us got my mom's hair - 4a/4b with major shrinkage. I realized this when I was home last time and took some braids out for her...we have exactly the same hair, including how it's going gray...ugh. :ohwell:

exactly. cuz all black people have "bad" hair, you know. :wallbash:

what cracks me up though, is when people say that "well, you can go natural cuz you got a nice grade of hair," stuff to naturals with healthy 4b hair. i'm looking at them like are you serious... it's the same hair growing outta your head. she just takes care of it!

My moms hair is straight thick and grows really fast. She relaxes like clockwork to thin it out and be able to comb through it.

My dads hair is really thick and it has a bit of curl to it. He uses this cream called hair softener so that he can comb through it.

My hair is 3c I think. I am much closer to my dads texture.

None of my siblings hair is like mine.

I have the same exact head of wierdness that my mother had (stringy, brittle, a bunch of different textures)...now I know why she kept her hair short :spinning: I did pick up my color and lack of gray hair from my dad. His hair was very dark brown and he didn't start getting grays until his 60s.

mom type 3a,3b,3c fine, thin
dad 3b, 3c fine thick

me 3a, 3b, 3c fine, thick ( a whole lot of fine strands)

My mom is mostly 2a/2b, I get my loose curl pattern from her. My hair is a little thicker than hers which I think comes from my dad who is probably 4a.

Mom 2a + dad 4z = me 3c/4a right in between:grin: my brother is 3a and its very coarse, the strands feel like fiber LOL even when its moisturized I should give him the FYI on SAA.

My mother told me for the longest that I had my fathers hair - very kinky/curly/nappy - whereas her hair was simply - softer. It is still cloud hair, but she doesn't NEED to have her hair wet to comb it - it's actually easier for her to comb dry.
Mind, that might be because when it's dry, it's all stretched out, and the water 'kinks' it up, and she's not used to combing out kinks. I dunno.

She has dreads now though, and they look JUST like mine did, and behave/react the same way, so I suspect we have the same hair.

My moms hair is a soft 2c (kinda like the singer Mya), and my dad is more of a 4a/b. He has some strong genes, my hair is 4a/b...with a smidgen of looser curls in the back.

haha, I've had that said to me, but in the other way "i can't go natural cuz i don't have a nice grade of hair". going by my parents, i probably won't have cute coils like I see lots of people on this board having.
