Dabur brand Vatika Enriched Coconut Oil

It's not hard to make these oils. Simply get the carrier/base of your choice (in veda mostly coconut and sesame are used) and your powders. You then add heat or time. Since it's summer, you can infuse them outside or you can do it in the oven, crockpot, or even stove top.

I have never used it but I want to try it. I know that Indian ladies massage their scalp with it all the time. they have beautiful thick hair.

I made my own version of oil (organic virgin coconut oil + avocado oil + neem oil + 100% pure jojoba oil and about 15 drops of rosemary essential oil) and I massage my hair with it and leave it overnight in a scarf every time before I wash my hair and I love it. But neem oil by itself smells very bad, so I can't wear that oil combo every day, so I massage my scalp, leave it in my hair for at least 8 hours and then I have to wash it off!

I want to try that Dabur Vatika oil. the UTUBE commercials are very convincing,
and everyone here gave me a satisfying review!
Thank you
Zanna

One more tip if you want to make it....add another carrier oil to coconut so that it doesn't freeze up or completely harden if even if it does solidify. Jojoba's great, but almost any other oil will work. You can also doctor your store bought coconut based oils this way so they won't freeze up. Remember coconut oil turns solid around 78-80F!!

Zanna, that's a nice riff on this oil. How much neem do you use in proportion?

I must've gotten a bad batch of this stuff...smelled just like farm animals. I gave it away. :ohwell:

LOL...I'm amazed at how so many think this oils smells good. Neem stinks like the dickins to me and you too. You DIDN'T get a bad batch. Maybe some are more sensitivie to the scent of neem than others. That's all I can figure.

jamaara,
i like the tip with adding the jojoba oil - think i will do that or almond oil.
where can i get the powders that are in vatika oil - i didnt see these at the indian store - or atlease if i did, i didnt know what i was looking at. i like the idea of getting rid of the TBHQ - and i am a "do it yourselfer" at heart. i would think it would be nice to customize your own mix based on your own needs as well.

the smell of mine isnt bad at all - i wonder how constent this product is since there seems to be several versions of it out there.

mine smell like coffee with indian spices....not horrible but not wonderful. i dont mind cuz my moisturizer covers the smell. after using it again after a long protein dc it came out good!

while at the indianstore today i also bought;
Herbal Henna for Hair
with Henna leaf powder, Amla fruit powder and shikakai powder - anyone try this blend?

thia...there are many places to get the powders from. If you've never bought them before check www.fromnaturewithlove.com and look at the info about each powder. Their prices are quite high to me, but they are an unbeatable REFERENCE site for almost any powder or oil you can think of...not to mention soapmaking stuff. To buy http://www.mehndiskinart.com/hair_powders.htm and there's a member here who also sells most of the vedic powders and oils commonly used here. http://stinastina.ecrater.com/

There are many more sources, but I'm just giving a starting point for searching. As for consistency w/ Indian products, I've always suspected there's a "for the tourists" line and the real stuff. Maybe I'm wrong. Tho I still buy some premade stuff, I mostly make and/or combine stuff myself. That way, I can control quality.

Is that henna you bought Godrej Nupur brand?

No, I've seen it but never used it. JMHO, but the only compound vedic oil I really like is Ramtirth's brahmi oil. If I'm buying I pefrer single oils (say Bhringraj oil) w/ maybe only a few complimentary herbs (if anything) added. I skipped this product because of the added henna (tho I also avoid neem in compounds). On your amla thread, I explained why I avoid henna in oils, but neem simply smells to bad to be worn.

jamaraa can you point me to this thread? i would like to know why you avoid henna

I will say 10% of all the oil combo.

thanks jamaraa! the Herbal Henna is by Uttam
off to do some reading.....

Thia...here's the link, but I cut and pasted it for you below:

http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showpost.php?p=5235427&postcount=13

I have some commercial preparations of Indian oils, but I usually make my oils myself. Personally, I think coconut oil is the compliment for vedic based oils and prefer to use them in that base. I would advise to not use any oil that has henna as an ingredient. I've never used a product w/ henna included because henna CAN act similar to a protein conditioner on some people so in a product designed for frequent use, it's a no go, and it ALWAYS affects hair color (if it's true henna). If you want henna, just use it separately as a treatment/colorant.

hairbrat_danni ....the benefits of amla are many. For my purposes it gets and keeps hair dark (over time), esp. if it's infused in coconut oil.

thanks Jamaraa - this makes sense.
i dont know why i thought you could get a translucent henna - i could swear i saw this somewhere - i am interested in the strenthening that henna can do - but i do not want the color - i want the shine with my natural color if that makes any sense.

You can get CASSIA OBOVATA. It's not henna and on dark hair leaves no visible color. It's sometimes called "clear or neutral" henna when packaged, but it's an entirely different plant. It has many of the benefits of henna w/o the color issue.

www.hennaforhair.com (too expensive IMHO, but a good resource like FNWL) has it as does the mehndiskinart link I gave above. Hennasooq, a member sells it too, but she was on maternity leave lately. You can search her and PM her to see if she's selling again. It's also on Ebay.

The stuff you bought WILL give you color, but you might be able to slide if you have extremely dark hair and leave it on for a very short amount of time (say 30 mins). If I wanted no color, I'd choose cassia and leave the henna in my closet. LOL...many cassia users end up going for henna, so you'd be ahead of the game.

I added some links and more info to my last, so reread it. If you haven't opened the henna or kept it too long, I don't see why you couldn't return it.

i want strong shiny hair too!!! i already dyed my hair black so the darker, the better for me:look:

ok i see that if you have grey or blonde hair this will give it a golden color. i do have a few silver strands - that i do not want to change - is there a way to use this w/o getting that gold tone on those? maybe just not adding the lemon juice and letting it sit for 12hrs to bring out that color?

I want this oil..mainly for massaging in my scalp. I have scalp problems and I'm sure this will help! Castor oil helps but it's a little too heavy and greasy.

thia...yes, I simply wouldn't "develop" the color by letting it sit....just mix and apply. Tho many women here use acid (ie lemon juice, acv, OJ), it's not necessary and it's drying for many, esp. those w/ African textures. That's the point of leaving henna and the like out to develop. Just mix it up and put it on for maybe an hour. All of these product DO stain somewhat, that's their nature....but I doubt it would show up on grey hair much and at worse give the greys a sparkle. Keep in mind the samples you looked at were NOT human hair, but wool.

myronnie....this Vatika is probably perfect for you because the neem is most often used for skin/scalp problems in veda.

Okaaaay! It's making me break my promise...I just found an Indian store locally that I see myself getting very familiar with:yep:

**adding Vatika and amla oil to my product to get list**

Yay, I'm not the only one who did this! Now I don't have to feel guilty about it!

That's alright hairbrat danni, Amla oil has been on my "to try" list forever and I've always wondered what the fuss was about Vatika oil and now I see, it's good stuff! :yep:

I have this oil...however I had an horrible accident w/ it.
We were staying at a white couples house in KS w/a softball team about 20 ppl, we the only :afro: of course:lachen:....we were at nationals. So anyway house was just BEAUTIFUL....so I am already nervous just being in the house. Hoping my kids don't act a mess or tear anything up. Well here I am 2 days into our stay, and I am upstairs in one of the bathrooms doing my hair thang:hair:, after I had to explain the diff of our hair to theirs, anyways nother subject. So I'm moisturizing then getting ready to seal w/ Dabur. I ran hot water over the bottle so it would liquify and pour out easy. I get ready to squeeze the bottle notice nothing comes out, and I melt some more, some more, nothing. I'm squeezing and squeezing....I'm sure yall have envisioned what happened next..:ohsnap::pullhair:
Top flies off and Yes OIL goes everywhere, all over the walls, my clothes, the floor....as yall know the curse words :swearing:. I scurry and find a sponge and wipe the walls down, it was dot after dot after dot after dot, lines, blotches..everything. I'm wiping and it looked like I had wiped all of it off w/ the wet sponge but once it dried....NOPE, it just was wet, and made it look like it was off. CRAP, THEN I get a towel and start wiping, OMG... and the DARNED paint comes off the wall.....WHAT THA....OH NO!!! I'm thinking dang only black folks in the house, so they gon' know its me/us. I think of my escape w/ the family :sekret: we can go get a room...no no that won't work. I just stand there for I don't know how long and make a 360 degree turnaround to look and the whole bathroom is plastered w/ oil specks BIG ONES wishing I could go back in time...just 5 mins:lachen:. I think I could blame on my kids :wasntme::saythat:, you know how you blamed your lil brother/sis for everything.

Finally I calm down, and I told my husband and kids...well heck they didn't even try to make me feel better :gotroasted: they were making fun of me, I was NOT in the laughing mood.

:imsorry: I told the ppl we were staying w/ I would pay for it, paint it, something. They were nice and said no big deal, and we laughed about it.
So point is....make sure you pierce the top to allow the oil to come out...yeah I didn't know that. I had just bought it. Sorry I just had to share my EXPERIENCE w/ Dabur Coconut. Love the oil though.

Wow, Tigget, I'm sooo sorry you hair put you on blast like that! Thanks for telling us though. This is my third week of research and I may just make a few purchases at the end of this week. This oil is on the very short list so I need all the advice I can get.

Dang Tigget, I'm so sorry boo:lachen: I know it's not funny, but I would have had the same look on my face. I still have my bottle which I haven't used and I did notice the little white cap, which said to pierce it. So thanks for the heads up, I think that's the reason I hadn't opened it yet, just pure laziness.........
