Theoretically, if someone cut your hair illegally, what exactly could you do?

Could you sue them? Would it be damaging personal property? Any lawyers up in here? No real life stories from my end. I was just thinking about that Asian lady who got hit by a cut and run at the shopping mall.

i'm just taking a shot in the dark, but wouldn't it be some form of assault?

:look: oh wait, maybe i'm thinking of what i would be charged with if this happened to me

Step 1: Take front-back-left-right pictures of your hair before the hair cut or going to the salon. Hold something timestamped like a newspaper or something.

I wish there was a way. Last Thursday I went to get my hair clipped and she chopped off 4 inches. I could not tell when I was there because my hair was so jacked up when she finished I was only concerned about this big buffant puffy thing on my head. When I got home, I wrapped with saran wrap for 10 min under the dryer and it was finally smooth. Then I noticed my hair no longer passed my breast. It did not touch my breast plus one side is shorter than the other. I then got a mirror and looked in the back. My hair use to reach mid bra now my hair reaches arm pit from back, no where near my bra. Plus it is uneven and chopped up. I have to get it cut again or clipped across to even it all out over time. So I don't know what or how to deal with her without going to jail. She has done my hair before (cutting and clipping) so I know she knew what she was doing this time and I really believe in my heart that she did it on purpose.

Op, sorry for my rant on your post :look:

Don't worry, we'll bail you out LOL

mrsmeredith, wow that's horrible! I don't go to salons but back in the day they'd have to show me each and every snip. I'd have a hand held mirror to be even more obnoxious LOL

For starters, I'm very sorry to hear of these types of things. We work long and hard on getting our hair to grow and then you get a scissor happy stylist or hater stylist to whack it all off!

I had a colleague refer Great Clips/Super Cuts for clipping/trimming and they really do a good job. Try them next time, you'll be pleased.

What reason would she have for doing it on purpose?

I guess the argument is that hair grows back but of course one can sue for infliction of emotional distress.

When I was in elementary school a white girl took a scissors and cut one of my plaits because she wanted to take it home and see what black hair was all about. I just sat there and she cut it on the bus. When I got home and my mother was like, "What the heck??". And I cried when I realised what had been done. I think about it today, had I cut off one of her ponytails I would have been suspended.

Best,

OP, it would be your word against the "cutter". In the case of sueing your beautitian for a hair cut, that wouldn't stand up in court. Now if someone pushed you down on the floor and cut your hair against your permission that is an assault ( with a deadly weapon). It depends on the situation. I cut my own hair, it is not perfect but it is still on my head. Sorry this happened to you.

That's why I suggested taking before/after photographs. It does require a bit of forethought, but it's well worth it. Couple that with wish4length's "No trim today please....or I'll sue" that should put a stop to any funny business.

Honestly I think she was angered that I never listened to her hair advice and my hair thrived. When ever she would see me she would always try to give me a tidbit of advice but it was always wronggggg and I let her know that. Not that her advice was not good but not for me. She is a family member and the people in my fam hair that she does has not grown a lick. She's the beautician but everyone at the last gathering were asking me questions and she was standing/sitting there like wth. So I think just being a hater. She has cut my hair before, beautifully I might add and clipped my ends on numerous occasions so I know she knew what she was doing. My hair is so uneven and choppy its unreal. Dh says I should let it grow out before I get it cut to correct it, because if I do so now I won't have any hair.

Putting aside our issues with stylists, what about a real cut and run? I havent read the story OP mentioned but i know of a teacher who had a ponytail passed her butt and a student put a match to it or cut it or smthg. In that case, its unexpected and definitely assault in my book. i think you can press charges but suing might not turn out too successful.

Oh sweetie, I'm so sorry that this happened :nono:. Give it some time and let it grow before cutting it. All the best.

It would be very hard to win a case like that. You would have to prove that she cut your hair without your approval. Even if you went for a cut and she cut it short, when you had long hair, you would have to prove that you hadn't instructed her to do so. It's your word against hers.

Hair cases are hard to win. The stylist would have to slip up and say something that would incriminate herself.

Wow! She is plain ole EVIL! I would beat the crap out of her, even if I can't prove she did it on purpose, in a court of law! She know and you know that was intentional.
