Hey ladies,

Im taking down my twists tomorrow and getting a relaxer on Saturday morning. Any recommendations? I need some tips on :

Removal

*Removal

*PrePoo/Shampoo/Conditioning/DEEP Conditioning/Recontructor

*Is it wise to wash my hair 2 days before a relaxer? I figure if a wash and condition it then it will be easier for her to get through my hair and my hair will be stronger.

Advice? Suggestions?

Hi! I took out twists last summer after having them for almost two months, and I remember it being MUCH easier to take out than braids -- I also remember than I tried to coat my hair, while still twisted, with a wet conditioner, because no matter how well I moisturize my hair under extensions it is always dry (the weave soaks it up) and the dryness is the biggest cause of hair-removal breakage for me.

As far as the washing, I DEFINATELY WOULD DO EVERYTHING YOU SAID, pre poo- gentle shampoo- A STRONG reconstructer- moisturizing conditioner. AND THEN I would grease my scalp with an oil-based product (but not mineral oil based, if you have one, I use Qmet Biologics' alma oil pomade ordered off line, or even Egyptian magic, which is bee propolis based, bought from Whole Foods. Even Castor oil would work).

I think you need clean hair before you let a stylist hack through it and apply chemicals to it -- technically, most reccomend that yo udon't perm after taking down extensions for 2 weeks or more, to give the hair a break. So once you do all of this, then try to give your hair and scalp a break by putting it in a french roll or a loose bun until relax day.

Good luck!!! ;)

A relaxer on saturday morning. Ummm no I wouldn't advise that wait at least 2 weeks before doing that and wait at least 2 weeks after a relaxer before putting them back in.

I can't go two weeks after taking my twist out, my hair is just to dang thick and uncontrolable. I've always waited at least 7 days, and I've never had a problem.
