No-poo method

Can someone tell me how do you utilize the no-poo method??? My hair becomes dry after using regular shampoo. I need effective alternatives. I am in desperate need and I need instructions.

This should help.

It's not necessary, but I like to apply something tingly to my dry hair when I wake up. Aura Rosemary Mint Rinse and Fantasia Tea Tree Naturals Conditioner are my current faves. By the time I get in the shower 20-30 minutes later, my scalp is nice and tingly. I rinse that out, apply some Pantene S&S conditioner and finish my shower. I detangle my hair and rinse the conditioner out.

Then I apply my products (MotownGrl's Leave-In and Proclaim Activator Gel), put my hair in a bun and tie it down with a scarf. Within 10-20 minutes my hair is dry enough to attach my fake afro puff and leave the house.

I think people that are stricly no-poo simply stop using shampoo. Most people here seem to be using a "less-poo" method. Meaning they may use a clarifying shampoo every couple weeks or once a month or something, to prevent build-up. Another thing you may consider is using a natural shampoo that doesn't have any drying chemicals in it, or simply diluting your shampoo so you're using less of it. I still shampoo every 7-10 days with aphogee for damaged hair (which is pretty strong stuff) but I do co washes every other day, and I deep condition for sure on days that I shampoo. My hair seems to be holding up fine.

The link given by Sassygirl should help. I use a variation. My hair is 4b and tightly coiled (I mean TIGHT). I use a dilute shampoo on my scalp (put in one of the dye bottles with the tip and squeeze onto scalp). Then I put a good conditioner on my hair. I do this at least twice when I shampoo. Works like a charm on my kinky coils.

I treid to do th "no-poo" method a while back. I used the Suav Coconut Conditioner. My scalp was SO itchy that I had to wash within 24 hours.
I know try to stick with shampoos with no soap (like Kemi) or Aubrey's with no SLS.

Any more suggstions?

I've been doing the no-poo for about 9 monthes now, or has it been a year? Well anyway, I love it! If you want the details on the method you can buy a book called Curly Girl which is what started the whole thing. Currently because I have braids extensions, I use shampoo now once every two weeks (while in extensions only) then I go back to no-poo when I am out of braids. On the no poo I have not had a problem with buildup, or itchy scalp. I really love it!

Everyone else gave you some good "how-to's" of the method , so I though I'd give you a testimonial, since I've used it consistanlty for 9 mo's.

I'm forever tweaking it, but lately this is what I'm doing...

1)Apply warm conditioner to *dry* hair, cover with plastic bag for 15 mins
2)Rinse
3)Re-apply warm conditioner & oil of choice to *wet* hair, cover with plastic bag for 15 mins
4)Rinse with cool water
