*sigh* setback time

Sorry, Njoy. I've been there (Oct 2011) and was forced to chop. It's frustrating and the pain runs deep.

So Sorry this happned to you. @NJoy :bighug:

As you can remember my December 2011 Dreadfull time :cry2: my hair tangled something aweful :nono: I cursed it and cussed it out galore, My hair was so thin afterwards. I ripped it from my scalp due to frustration and still I don't have all my thickness for my thin strands.

what ever you do decide, I am sure it will come out looking hottie hottie at the end  so chin up and relax, no doing hair on an angry stomach.

I can understand your frustration, especially looking at the pictures. I hope you will not have to cut. But if you do, you might be happy about it. When I was forced to bc just short of 17 months it turned out to be the best situation for me. I was so happy to be free of those permed strands. I hope for success with whatever you decide to do.

Oh noooo! Don't cut your hair. I'm sorry this happened to you. There's been some good suggestions so far. Have you tried diluted acv? Or avj? Hope you can get it out : (

Sorry to hear about your hair woes. I was going to suggest Cowboy Magic because it worked for me when I had knots and bad tangles. The problem also has to do with the two different textures. Since May I decided to stop combing my hair and to start fingercombing. I haven't had a relaxer since February and it is becoming quite challenging. I went back to wearing half wigs/wigs and I keep my hair in plaits underneath my wigs. I take down plaits every two weeks and fingercomb to detangle so that my hair will not get matted. I hope your hair problem works itself out without you losing too much hair.

believe me i have been there too. please don't cut your hair in frustration. give yourself some time to get through this.

if you have some aubrey organics white camellia conditioner this works great. it's super slippy, & is my go to for mega knots.

with some patience & a positivemind set you will definitely get through this. hth :):):)

Take some breathers and don't BC just yet. I second the aloe vera. Got rid of my tangles when I messed up and got too lazy to detangle properly.

Oh no!! ((BIG HUG))

When I saw the title and your name, I was hoping that it was something that could be remedied. IA w/the ladies who suggested mimicking loc takedown. Also, fingercombing is awesome cause you can feel tangles with your fingers before tugging on them to make them tight knots.

Whatever you decide, I just wanted to send a big hug your way since I can't come help you detangle. Also, I'm sorry to hear about hubby. I wonder if he'll feel differently once he sees your long, gorgeous natural hair.

Sooooooo, I picked up some "Take Down", which I was a bit worried about using because it contains "borax". But, I used it and worked patiently on my hair....for hours.

My tangles and any matting released. The knot? Still there. I was getting happy because it definitely felt like I was making good progress and releasing strands. I tried to sneak up on the knot from the inside to loosen it up. But, to no avail.

Suddenly, I'm wishing that I'd cut my relaxed ends weeks ago when I first entertained the idea. *sigh* Ah, I knew better. And when you know better, you have to do better. That's all I can do from this point on. No need wallowing. I may have to conceed to defeat. The rest of my hair is like "what the?!"

I will say my natural hair feels nice and springy. Maybe it is time to cut. We'll see.

NJoy Stop right there! :stop: Whew! I had to get your attention!

(I'm sick right now, and I started reading this on my phone. Seeing your name too made me get all up out of bed so I could use the smilies.)

I'm glad you got so many of your tangles released. Believe me, I have had some crazy, crazy tangles too. The hardest thing is working on them for hours and hours and still having that giant ball on my head :cry2: I'm sorry that you're going through this. :bighug: But I'm glad that you can also hide that bad boy and go about your day when you need to. (I've done the same thing!!!!)

The only other suggestion I have (and it's strange that I'm suggesting this given that I have been a complete, 100% DIYer since my last relaxer), is to go to a salon. Not any salon, but a curly hair salon. I had a ginormous tangle. Literally a quarter of my hair (the back right) had knotted and matted together something fierce :nono: (and every time I took a break from it it would twist its way back up!!! :spinning:). I completely said *** it . I went to a DevaChan-inspired/certified salon (people who are familiar with curly hair) and revealed my tangle. My stylist was so sweet, and he and other stylists spent like two hours untangling that and the other random knots in my hair. I helped a tiny bit, but mostly just watched. And after: free hair. Whew! It felt so good.

If you're struggling to get it out, it might be a good idea to go to a professional--especially one who won't just grab the scissors and will understand your desire to keep your hair.

At the same time, if you're ready to chop, chop away! For me, it was the relaxed hair that was acting up the most!

When I picked out my dreads, soaking dry hair in oil and then using the end of a rat tail comb is how I got the knots out. I got through all 150+ locs without having to cut, and I had literally tied knots in them. Maybe having someone else work on it for you is a good idea. Of course if you just want to cut, go ahead. But I'm sure you can get the knot out of you don't want to cut it.

Girl, you are describing me to a T! I untangle, leave it alone and then I'm back to square 1. I have detangled sections separated now by clips and pins. I look a hot mess with all these clips in my hair but I didn't work hours just to have it tangle back.

I did get impatient and cut (and rip) some of my braids loose. It's all good except that knot! If I can find someone to detangle it for me, I'd gladly pay. I'm tired of this and ready to just be done with it....either way. :nono:

Maybe I will call around and see if anyone's willing to give it a go but, I really don't see this thing coming loose.

I chuckled at you saying that you had to get up just to use the smilies. Thanks for that, girl. It does make a difference. :bighug:

I definitely think it's my relaxed ends cutting up. They tangle like nobody's business when I lump them together overnight. WHAT was I thinking.

Let me go make some calls. Thanks, girl. ~Although I'm afraid they're gonna cut anyway and then cut me too short to even it all up. yiiiiiiikes!!

Don't be so sure. I've been trying everything. Just can't budge that knot.

I don't want to go from HL to NL. That would be too much. I'm hoping most of my length is caught up in matting above the knot. But I've already seen 4" chunks in the drain so... :ohwell: We'll see.

Gotta feeling I'm gonna have to whip up a fresh batch of growth mix.

All of this was soooo ME! I was just too through with my giant tangle. I think having someone else do it is great because they have a much better angle, and if they're professionals you'll be even more set because they can go faster and won't be intimidated. I still feel bad about needing my momma's help for a separate, humongo tangle in March. :nono: :giggle:

Hopefully they won't cut it all. And if they say that's the only thing to do... get a second opinion!
