Anybody Still Using Shea Butter

I remember years ago on this forum ladies were all about Shea. So I'm just wondering with all the new butters and creams on the market is any one still using plain old Shea butter (or mixed) to moisturize or seal? ?TIA

I remember that too. Shea never worked for me. Great for my skin but too "sticky" for my hair. I tried mixing it with coconut oil too. I need a water-based moisturizer.

I use shea butter in my dc and i luv it. At first i didnt like it because i didnt heat it up 1st but now since its in liquid form it really makes my hair soft when using it in my dc

I'll take Shea oil, over the butter any day. I use it, but my faves are coconut, and castor....they're like salt, just up in Everything I do.

Yes, that's my staple moisturiser. I apply to damp hair.

I use shea butter along with other butters. It's a staple for me as well. MY hair just needs something heavy and shea butter gets the job done.

This is hilarious....sounds like me too, but I did just get an order of shea butter yesterday, and I am trying to figure out wth to do with it...maybe I will make a whipped hair butter or something.....

After I'm done with my E QP mango butter I'm gonna whip some up with oils a avj and use it as my moisturizer

Maybe it's a seasonal thing. I use light oils in the summer but I blend body butters when the weather gets cold. There are many butters that basically do the same thing. Shea butter is just one that's more affordable and easier to get.

I still use Shea as a sealant. I usually melt it down and mix it with jojoba, apricot, avocado, olive, safflower, JBCO and cocoa butter. My hair loves it.

Yep! I mix mine with coco butter (which NO ONE on this board talks about), some pumpkin seed butter and mango butter.

Best sealant ever!

And...its great for the skin too. Cured my DD's facial eczema. I have no scalp flares either.

Alot of the Butters/Pomades I buy (on-line) most vendors are using Shea Butter some kind of way as a base and adding other ingredients.

But, I don't buy Pure Shea Butter by itself.

I am a slore for cocoa butter. SLORE I tell you! :lachen:

I use it for my body and the boy's though. I may try to whip them but I am impatient, and it take too long to whip fluffy...I melt and mixed shea, cocoa, almond/avocado/mango/illpe/kokum (which ever one is in stock in my stash butters - I prefer avocado and mango though) with Jojoba, coconut, safflower, avocado and evening primrose oils. I use this as diaper 'cream' for the boy too.

I did make a mix for my hair with the above and one of the Ayurveda oils - a green one to seal my hair and scalp. I haven't used it yet cuz I bought some pomades. will was and try soon.

This is the way that I use shea; it won't work alone on my hair or my skin.

She butter is still the only butter I use. Granted, I have been out of the US for a while so I have tried any other butters but my hair LOVES it so...why fix what ain't broke?

i use to use it on my hair a lot, but now i use Shea Moisture. i love that stuff. i use the Shea Butter on my body.

This is just one recommendation too many, I MUST try this in my DC tomorrow!!!

I use the plain ole unrefined shea butter in a block - I melted some down with castor oil then let it resolidify and now I use it to seal. It goes on smootly and starts to melt on contact, unlike shea alone which would sometimes leave hard blobs in my hair. Works beautifully for my thick/coarse strands.

I still use shea butter whipped, just not as much as I used to. The only reason I don't use it quite as much is because I'm trying out other products I have acquired. But when I do use it, it's on damp hair to seal.
