I was looking on the carols daughter website and everything on there looked so tempting!

I was just wondering if anyone has had much experience with any of the lines and which ones are the best

I found CD to be overpriced, underwhelming and greasy as all get out.

And I swear they dump a whole bottle of fragrance into each and every container they sell.

When DH was loced, he really loved their Loc Butter.

HTH!

I use her Monoi products and they are just awesome. The DC leaves my hair really soft and moisturized. Her Smoothing products are also great. During my transition I used her kit and it really helped my hair. Also, her Smoothie's are awesome.

I tried Carol Daughter and my hair hated it. My hair was so dry and matted after using her products. And the fragrance is overwhelming, and this is coming from a person who loves scents.

Haven't heard many bad reviews, which line did you find greasy

I loved the old school Carol's Daughter of the '90s when the products were still handmade and with better ingredients. I was drawn to the brand because it was one of few (if not the one one) that didn't use petro jelly and mineral oil.

Now I find their products to be too overpriced and the formulas have changed over the years.

I loved some of the old scents. There was an old men's cologne that was fantastic.

I loved Ocean... the don't make that anymore. Or Big Kahuna, Roses and Honey...

I miss the old products.

I agree with the pps about the older products. I used to love Ocean and the Green Tea perfume as well. Not sure if they still make that.

My relaxed hair was having none of it. I tried her hair milk and it left my hair dry and brittle.

I do remember though loving her body lotion, the almond cookie one

OP check the ingredients of CD products- I think they're listed on curlmart.com or makeupalley.com If your hair plays well with the majority of her ingredients then you might be in luck. I haven't used CD in years- but my hair hated every last one of her products- which I remember being chock full of oils.

carols daughter dont get much love on this forum lol.

i love the tui and black vanilla shampoos. they are both very moisturizing and do not strip the hair.

i love the black vanilla and tui smoothie as well. they detangle well and are moisturizing.

i love love love the hair balm. when i was relaxed you couldnt tell me this wasnt the best thing since sliced bread. you only need a teeny tiny drop though because it can easily weigh your hair down. i still use it now that im natural and i love the smell. its one of the best smells she makes.

healthy hair butter was a staple when i was relaxed but the formula has changed and it went from a butter to a cream and its a little waxy now. dont like it much any more.

LOVED the original hair milk. back when it was in the brown labled bottle. its still good now but not AS good. but i still always keep a bottle on hand.

oh and i like the monoi mask a lot too.

I tried it once probably in '03 or '04, I spent about $70 on 3 items & my hair did not like it at all. I keep saying ha I'm going to revisit it, but I just can't. I was going to buy some from Sephora today, but the butters that I picked up smelled like waxy berries :ohwell:

The only thing I ever liked from Carol's Daughter was their Black Vanilla Deep Conditioner. Great scent and moisturizing. Everything else that I tried was disappointing.

I knew you'd be Reppin' up in this piece!

Anyway, I have and love the Black Vanilla Smoothie DC'er and the Conditioner (caught a good Sale) and Stocked Up.:look:

I don't buy much CD. But for the right price and if I like the description, might.:look:

The Black Vanilla shampoo and smoothie smell wonderful and work great, I just don't think it's worth the price because of the ingredients. However, I LoVE the smell of the Black Vanilla line and keep a product stocked for those day when I just want to use something that smells amazing.

The healthy hair butter is great when used on wet hair on top of another leave-in, and at the same time not worth the price for that very same reason.

I want to try the monoi mask and loc butter, but I will not pay full price.

That BV Smoove (as Brownie calls it:lol:) is thebomb.com :lick:

Yeah, I'd buy the Tui DC'er or the Khoret one. I know I had both of those before 'back in the day'.:look:

I think Brownie Brownie518 is using the Healthy Hair Butter, the Chocolate stuff and a couple other things (maybe the Monoi?).

The Black Vanilla Smoothie I loved. I still have some on back-up.

The Monoi makes my hair break mid strand every time I use it without fail. The first time I used it, that resulted in my severe crown breakage. The monoi has silk, but not enough to really be strengthening, just softening. I dont understand how people like that crap. :perplexed I still have the shampoo and conditioner in here.

I bought the smoothing shampoo ($5) and I wanted to conditioner but I am going to pass.:nono:

Khoret Amen shampoo smelled like butt! But I did like it and it was her best DC though now she only sells it with olive oil and I dont need the oil as I have some on my kitchen counter and those oils in my bathroom. :perplexed

The Rosemary mint was too stripping and left your hair literally like straw.:cry2:

The thing I hate about her products is that they are filled with tons of glycerin to cheapen the product. My hair was dry 2 seasons of the year because of all that dam glycerin. Khoret Amen is her best conditioner but it costs more than the other smoothies, Black Vanilla and Tui are as good as the natural thing gets with her products after, but the Monoi and Chocolat are chock full of chemicals, equations, biological processes, PEG-oils and other nonsense. She pisses me off royally. I dont support her thieving behind anymore :swearing:

When the monoi line came I had already stopped using the line. However I tried every hair product existing in that brand just before the monoi line came out(i bought the entire line during a sale then just started using the products one by one).I really love her hair smoothies. All of those were worth my money, work and smell great. Everything else I had to doctor up to make decent.

I really like the Mimosa Hair Honey for the once or twice a year that I curl/flat iron my hair. It really makes it sleek and I love the smell. My new growth really liked the Marguerite's Magic, but it's running low and I'm looking into cheaper alternatives.

As for the rest of her products that I've tried, I think they're a bit too expensive for what's in them. =/

I like the vanilla bean and tui hair smoothies. I also use the hair butter when my hair is straight. I don't purchase often because the smoothies are expensive.

Her products are greasy, waxy, and leave build-up on my 3c-4a strands that took a month to wear off even with clarifying. I used them before she became mass marketed and now i notice the ingredients in her products have gotten crappier but they weren't all that great to begin with. You'd be better off using karen's body beautiful, qhemet biologics, or darcy's botanicals if you can get access to them in the UK.

THIS!!!

I loved her products, but once she went mainstream, that was the end.

:yep: BV Smoove is my joint! I also use, and love, the BV Shampoo, Healthy Hair butter, Marguerite's Magic, and Monoi conditioner. Oh, and that Khoret Amen Smoothie and oil. It stanks but works great.
