I am noticing that curly falls or 1/2 wigs as I call them do not last as long. I don't like straight ones because they seem to have nappy looking ends after a while of wearing them. I have never worn my wigs for this long and I am in serious need of some help with how to take care of them. Right now I am wearing synthetic hair, should I purchase real hair and just take care of it like I take care of my real hair? Or should I continue to go with synthetic and do........(need this to filled in)

I just don't think synthetic hair is meant to last for long. I tend to replace mine every 3-4 months but I tend to switch between 2, so they all wear out evenly.

I also noticed that all of wigs get tangled in the bottom layers - I think from rubbing my collars:confused:

I just ordered 4 today, 2 of the same ones. That way I can wear switch btwn the 2 that are the same and then alternate which ones I wear each week. I am not planning on spending much money but I figure that spending $90 something every 3 to 4 month is not that bad either. Either way its cheaper than the $120 I was paying each month to get my hair done.

Does anyone have pics of them wearing any of the following?

Freetress Shake n Go Fullcap )San Juan Girl, Bonaire Girl, Jamaican Girl, Pretoria Girl)

Outre Quick Weave (Barbara Chandra Drew Hannah Nita & Polly)
Those are some quick weaves/caps that I found n the GMB site, and it would help to see it on a real "live" person

I purchased a FreeTress Fall on Saturday. I love it but was told today at work that I needed to wear a wig cap. Is this true? If so what is the best kind, netted or the ones like a stocking cap? Are there any that are silk that would better for my hair?

Also this is how I planned on wearing my fall.

1. Co-washing/washing my hair every two weeks.
2. Using a protein conditioner once a month
3. Cornrowing my natural hair and placing the fall on top of it.
4. Using BT every day 2xs per day.
5. Using soft rollers to set the fall so that it remains shiny and curly as I would like it to be.
6. Taking the fall out everynight and sleeping in a satin/silk scarf.
7. Using no heat at all, instead using the satin covered soft rollers.
8. Stretching my relaxer from every 4-6 weeks to every 10-12 weeks.

Can any of you who wear falls please tell me if this is a good plan? Is there something I can do different to protect my hair more or to help it grow better?

Thanks in advance. Will post a pic of me in my fall tonight.

Welcome Poetrygirl and BlkOnyx! :)

I only wear net or silk caps underneath. I do think a WIG CAP adds extra protection for your hair from the wig base.

Poetry - your care plan looks great! Picking porducts was the hardest part for me.

BlkOnyx - Freetress has a few full cap "instant weaves" that are BSL or longer, but I've only seen straight styles.

I have found that the Human Hair curly wigs last longer. They can take shampooing and conditioning and will not friz as fast if you use a anti friz serum like John Frieda on it after shampooing. The synthetics start to bunch up too quickly for me. I keep human hair curly wigs for 3 to 4 months (one wig). I shampoo it every week and I finger comb it.

Mscocoface I LOVE that fall! That is a fall, right? Can I ask what brand it is and the style name.

I'm in for this challenge, because I haven't relaxed my hair since December, and I never relax in the spring/summer. I figure that I'll have gone 9 months between relaxers so I might as well NOT relax for a year (or more..not sure)

I tried falls before, but I always wore the straight ones, and my hair texture w/ the straight ones was not a good match. I have found a curly fall that I LOVE and no one seems to know that it's not my hair, but I want more curly/wavy hair options besides that one.

I'm taking notes on taking the combs out, baggying, deep conditioning, etc;
My hair is just shoulder length now, but after the big trim I'm about to do, it might just graze my neck. this challenge comes right on time, so I'm in!

Any curly haired fall wearers, please list brands and style names for me..TIA

Believe it or not it is a full wig. I just place it on the back on my head.

It is from Midway the Denali line, the name of this one is Jetta. I have gotten them for 19.99.

Hey fellow wig wearers:) I've been wearing a wig lately, synthetic. I also have a fall that I started wearing at the beginning of my hair care journey, it's human hair. I find that, oddly enough, my fall tangles more than my synthetic wig:ohwell: . My synthetic wig was very shiny when I first bought it, I sprinkle baby powder on it and brush through to decrease the shine. [the vinegar thing didn't work:ohwell: ]. To get the half-wig/fall back into shape I slather a cheapie con on it (suave) and let it sit for some hours then rinse, let it dry to about 80% then blowdry it straight.

My regimen:
-Wash (DC)1x weekly or 8-10 days, protein con bi-weekly
-Airdry only in plaited sections using a hair lotion and oil: cover with scarf
-Cornrow entire head
-Do daily upside down scalp massages
-Apply growth aid 2x's daily
-Moisturize daily

Here's my wig:

My half wig( of course I only cornrow the back hair when I wear this. I took those combs OUT!)http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/4719/fallqe5.png

I want to join in too! My hair is thinning like crazy because I just had a baby. I had the same problem two years ago when I stopped the pill and falls and Nioxin saved my hair (I'm wearing a fall in my avatar). So I'm back on that regimen. I plan to prepoo (ORS Hair Mayo, egg and EVOO), wash (Queen Helene Garlic Shampoo), and condition (Mizani Moisturfuse) every 10-14 days. I use ORS Carrot Oil on my wet hair and let it air dry, I'll also baggy every day. I had my last relaxer 7 weeks ago and hope to stretch it till 12 weeks. I want to use the Nioxin products but just spent a load of money on my normal products before I realized that I was shedding. I take biotin, a multivitamin, flaxseed oil and a calcium supplement daily. I already own two synthetic falls and will probably get two more.

Not sure if Ill be able to join the challenge but Im gonna try. :) Just bought my first wig: Full cap, Freetress Oakland Girl. Its straight w/ a bang. I like it alot, gonna play w/ some styles tomorrow.

Def. looking for ideas for what to do w/ my hair underneath - I have short hair so I cant really braid, etc. Heres my idea, please critique:

Cowash weekly
D/C w/ CPR + Jojoba Oil weekly
Air dry (w/ Biolage leave in) then moisturize w/ NTM Leave in + BT (once it arrives!!) to seal (can you seal w/ BT?)
Use my nylon wigcap under wig and go!
Use BT 2x daily

I hope this makes sense. Thanks so much in advance, ya'll are just the best.

Well Im wearing my wig for the first time today. Not a good experience so far. It doesnt look AT ALL how it looked in the store. Its not sitting right on my head. Im extremely self concious about it. Im getting looks all my coworkers. Im checking the mirror every 15 seconds cuz Im scared it looks stupid. I dunno. Maybe its just SUCH a big difference. Ill try to post a pic if I can. But its just not a great day.

Welcome Pirouette, Dabashmentlady, and Kels823!

Pirouette - Congrats mommy, I bet a wig is a timesaver with a new baby in the house! :)

Kels823 - Are you wearing a wig cap? It could help your wig to lay flatter.

Do you trim while wearing or use a wig head?
