Corn syrup is a real turn off. GAME OVER.
There are too many black women owned companies doing great things to deal with that ISH.

I can understand that. Being someone who wants more unmodified/unrefined natural ingredients.

Although, corn syrup/glucose syrup isn’t inherently bad for hair. Topically speaking (Bad for consumption in high dosages. Too much sugar, etc). It’s very closely related to glycerine and honey, and the high fructose ones act as humectants as well. You can cut the thickness of it with any number of carrier oils. I know you said you don’t like it in your products but, if there’s ever an instance of you being short on cash, it’s a good mask in replace of the more expensive honey masks, or farm made honey brands.

I’ve used it a few times melted down with Shea Butter. Took a while because they are both thick consistencies. It plays well with other homemade masks too like avocado, banana, fruits, etc.

But if it’s still offputting, no biggie. That’s understandable.

It’s springtime. I don’t want bugs.

Singin’ the praises of the baggy method
Good thing, for most people the hate is in the mouth and not in their actions, because SM is still on the top shelves, and I know where I live their products are always being restocked. You know what they say, even bad publicity can be good publicity at times.

For anyone on the outside reading this, here are my SM faves that can leave my hair moisturize for an entire week. I’ve purchased all of these recently and I know they are still bomb.

SM JBCO Masque
SM JBCO Leave In
SM Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Masque
SM Curl & Style Milk
SM Extramoisture transitioning Milk
SM 10 in 1 Renewal System Masque
SM Shea Butter Masque (don’t think this is the correct name, but it’s their original) I don’t like it as a Masque, but I love it as a cream on top of the extra moisture transitioning milk of the same line.

Can’t go wrong with any of these.

Why are you so offended? Keep using it! No one is telling you to stop!!!

I like many others thought SM was a fallback. No more with these recent changes.
Never said anywhere that I was going to stop. I am not a follower. I just don’t understand the thought process of spending money on brands that I don’t like. But I guess we all have our motives behind why we do things. I guess my question came off a bit snarky, but it was a valid question in my opinion. Lol.

Just realized that my question wasn’t even geared towards you. And the person who was asked did not get offended by it and responded politely with her reasoning. Sooooooo... I don’t know what that response was all about. You’ll be alright.

The JBCO shampoo is a huge staple. I don't like most non-sulfate shampoos but that one leaves my hair so clean. Everything else I haven't been a fan of. I don't know if the products are good or not, they just smell so strong I can only bear to use them once and then just can't continue. I've tossed a lot or given them to my mom, but she's relaxed and they don't work for her hair.

I bought the Manuka & Honey shampoo from Sally's and I don't see mafura oil or honey listed.

Water (Aqua), Decyl Glucoside, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Glycol Stearate, Glycerin (Vegetable), Hydrolyzed Rice Protein, Panthenol, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*, Fragrance (Essential Oil Blend), Adansonia Digitata Seed Oil, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Trichilia Emetica Seed Butter, Ficus Carica (Fig) Extract, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Caprylyl Glycol, Stearamide AMP, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Tocopherol. *Certified Organic Ingredient

I hate SM, they're so fos.
I used to use the shampoo when I was natural. I bought it again recently and I feel like they changed something. The shampoo doesn't suds up as well and is really hard to wash out. I had to shampoo my hair 3x to get it clean.

They are changing a lot of stuff. To continue using the two items I plan to continue using I will take my empty bottle with me to the store to compare ingredients, plus keep my receipt. I am not playing with these people.

I'm really disappointed. That shampoo worked really well for me before. I even used to dilute it 1:8 with water and it still worked like full strength. But now I had to use do much shampoo and lather up multiple times. And it left my hair sticky and tangled. I was done with shea moisture since way before, but I'm totally done now.

They sold to Unilever and they are changing the formulas. It sucks because I really like how the JBCO leave in works as a styler.

My hair only behaves with SM Leave In.
I assume the SM Leave in - on store shelves now is a new formulation (if it is reformulated), given the 2017 acquisition date If true, so far so good and keeping fingers crossed it continues.

Absolutely. I guess with any line, if it stops working we move on.

I used to love the Purification Masque from the African Black Soap line. About two years ago, I noticed it became harder to find and, when I finally did find it again, it was repackaged as a thick, cream-colored product named Dandruff Control Hair Masque. Now, the only Shea Moisture product that I own is the Coconut and Hibiscus Curl and Style Milk- my stylist uses it on my hair when I wear twist extensions.
