my hair generally looks the same as it does in real life. but then were times where my hair looks smaller in photos than it really was and sometimes the flash made my hair look patchy when this wasn't the case in natural light.
i've only just recently taken a picture where i think it makes my hair looks longer/bigger than it really is. but maybe i'm hesitant to believe that's all my hair because i was braided for 3 months plus my hair was somewhat stretched in that photo anyway.
eta: i also agree with the poster who said her hair looks like a "black mass" when it's curly. i have coils all over my head (i'm pretty much 4a all over) and they are usually very well defined. in pictures, this is not the case. i cannot even get a decent texture shot, tbh.

That's interesting b/c your curly pics look like they have great curl definition to me.
But I understand what you're saying. A lot of times I have to try different lighting to get a truer picture of how my hair looks when I take pictures. Pictures often make my hair look worse (to me) than it does IRL.

I agree. It varies on whether or not my hair is straight or curly, but sometimes I do feel that the camera is not nice to my curly hair
When my hair is straight it and I have a picture I'm like wow my hair looks great! lol

The bolded is me to a tee (except the husband part, lol). I often take pics after getting my hair done and I'm like "wow my hair looks really good in these pics - but it doesn't really look like that . . . does it?" I think a lot of it is a warped perception for me b/c I wear protective styles a lot of the time so I just don't have an accurate mental perception of what my hair really looks like. The other part of may just be good lighting

I think my hair looks thinner in pictures, especially when I wear it curly or in a braidout. I will grab the camera and try to capture "a good hair day" and when I look at the pics, it's soo disappointing. My hair can be huge (how I like it), and the camera does not reflect that.

Honestly, I believe that I am suffering from hair anorexia. Everyone in my circle comments on how nice, long and healthy my hair looks...while I'm thinking that it is short.
I like my pictures to refer to when I am in a weave/protecting because maybe it reveals what others see in me that I don't see.

Sometimes my hair looks thicker and shinier in pictures than it does in real life; but other times, the photos make my hair look pathetic. It also depends on where I take the photos of my hair (for example, the photos I take in the bathroom have less light than the ones I take in my living room). I always have to consider my lighting source (is there enough light in the room, is the flash trippin' out on me, etc.). I have to explain this to people all the time when they ask me how my hair changes from month to month. It seriously depends on how the camera chooses to behave at that moment.

The flash of the camera always makes hair look much shinier than it actually is. Many people are fooled by that when looking at Fotki albums. My photos are mainly to document length, not shine, so I'm not too worried about that side of things. My hair does seem to look thicker and heavier on camera.

Don't you hate that? I be feeling the same way sometimes. Maybe if our arms were longer, we could really capture the true essence of our hair.

It varies for me...sometimes, I'm having a great hair day and it seems like everyone notices but the camera!!! Sometimes, I capture exactly what I see (whether good or bad) and sometimes I look at those pics and I'm like...that's WAY cuter than my hair is actaully looking right now.
I agree with this as well. My hair looks 500% better in person. In my fotki my pics my hair tends to look thin, dull and dry. :-(

Yes. I can't quite capture the thickness or the shine (if I put flash then the photo's ruined) length is hard to capture also. Shrinkage is a *itch. So combing the hair to show the length then grabbing camera to position of perfect capture and it's drawn up again. I hate it but it's the only way to track the progress.

I agree, when I take pics my hair doesn't look as full to me. People always comment on the thickness and fullness, then when I take pics it just looks average.
