Product Junkies - When do you know if you have crossed the line?

Is it about the number of products you buy, buying every new product posted, or is it about the amount spent?

I do not think I am a PJ but I bought lots of produts over the last 8 weeks or so based on this chat board. I was overcome today at Target by the urge to buy more products. I bought 4 conditioners & a leave-in although I just bought new bottles of ORS Replenishing conditioner, Creme of Nature shampoo & my Shea Moisture Leave-in on Friday. Granted, it was all Herbal Essences: Break's Over (10.17 oz), Long Term Relationship (17 oz), LTR leave-in (6 oz), None of Your Frizziness (10.17 oz) & Hello Hydration (17 oz) and the total was under $20 (even including the $2 for parking) but I really did not need any of these products.

So, does this make me a PJ? I really do not even have the room for one more product so I must stop.

I think if ur doing these kinds of purchases on a consistent basis then ur def. a pj. Doing a splurge once in a blue moon is okay. What does the rest of ur product stock look like? cuz PJ's don't stop. they just keep buying and buying and buying

It's how much I buy, and don't use, because I'm so busy buying something new.... I think that's the line..... at least for me, personally.

If you buy, and try, and don't like - I don't consider that PJhood.... that's just experiementation.....

It's the buying, just to buy, and have products that you forgot you owned and still buying them again - that's hardcore PJhood.

um I know I was a product junkie but I am in recovery (yea 4 me!)
I know because I have a whole big closet full of hair stuff and my friends come over to pick out stuff, I am currently using all my products down before I purchase new however I do feel a slip comn on....I want to order the silicon mix set and a new flat iron:sekret:. I never kept track of how much I spent because, that helped me stay in denial:perplexed. But I have tried about everything:nono:

There was a treseme' sale at my grocery store. I don't even use that line...so why did i walk out with 4 treseme' products!?

I hardly do co-washes...why the heck do i need 7 cowashing conditioners?

when ur a PJ...nothing makes sense anymore.

You a PJ! LMAO.

Yeah, I think I have crossed the line when I buy things I don't need and have things sitting around in hiding and neverget to because I have too much other stuff to use already.

It's madness. That is why I am taking back some stuff to JC Penny tomorrow and giving away a bunch of stuff on FreeCycle. I took back some stuff to Sally's last week. No excuse for having all this stuff that I will never use, or will take me months (years, even) to use.

For me, it's not the cost or even trying something new -- it's the volume. There's just no reason to have a dozen shampoos or two dozen conditioners that I like and still go out and buy more. That's the line for me to keep buying when I have perfectly good (and usually better) products at home.

When I started giving away products to make room for more, I knew I was a PJ. I am now in recovery :wallbash:

In addition to the things I bought today & Friday I have an array of other products that I've had for a while. I was a salon devotee so there was really no reason for me to have the products at my house.

I used Curl Friends purify (clarifying shampoo) that I "found" in my stash of products. I found a few other Curl Friends products that I must have purchased when I was wearing curly weave. :lachen:

I have a FHI Platform SE 1" that I used once as well as Nioxin shampoo & conditioner, Keracare conditioner, Nexxus Humectress & Heat Protexx (I don't even use heat) & some Biolage conditioner too. These are things I had before coming to the chat boards though. I even found some Hawaiian Silky detangling conditioner (doesn't look used), John Frieda wind down creme (half used), Optimum shampoo (half used) and a few Pantene Pro-V samples (never used).

I forgot about the Suave Humectant, Garnier Fructis, Surge Ultra Max & Elasta QP H-Two, coconut oil & 2 braid sprays (for when I had a sew-in weave). Oh yeah, and a few trial size oils leftover from the Gro Aut sample kit that my hair hated & two shampoos - also from the sample kit.

I guess I am a PJ but it stops today.

I know that I have crossed the line....I did a long time ago. I have so many products that I seriously think I could go atleast 2 years without having to buy ANYTHING.

I am trying to work on my regimen and decrease the amount of products I use. I will say that being a product junkie has helped me start to figure out things that MY HAIR DOES NOT LIKE. So like a previous posted said...am I really a product junkie or do I just like to EXPERIMENT.

You have crossed the line when you have to ask this question, you come running into any thread that mentions PJ, or you answer to PJ like it is your name.:look:

I'm hard core PJ and I'm having problems stopping :spinning:. I need like a 12 step program. In my limited defense, I'm trying to find my staple products since I have only been trying to do right by my hair for about 6-7 months. If I find something that doesn't work for me, I will give it away. I have about 16 conditioners, 8 shampoos, several types of protein, garlic stuff, India oils, soaps, powders. Oh heck, I have way too much stuff to list, but I do plan on taking some stuff to the meet up next month, and I plan on coming home empty handed!!

Youre in the early stages.
First step is admitting you have a problem.
I don't know what the other 11 steps are so I can't really help you beyond that:ohwell:

I would think it's when you're used to buying this and that, and wind up can't pay your bills! You wind up having to pay late fees and the like. But STILL when you're trying to get it under control, there goes someone coming up saying "You have gotta try (insert product name here)" And what are YOU doing?

Such a cute graphic.

No, I am not at that stage but I will not buy another product until I use up what I have, or discover they don't work for me and sell them.

Let me stop laughing because I know I'm a PJ too. I recently started my hair journey and I have so much products in my closet, that my boyfriend is telling me that I am going to make the beauty supply stores jealous soon! Now that is sad...:look:

Too true... Too true. I fell out laughing b/c this is me. But I have managed not to buy the treseme products yet eventhough they are on sale everywhere. But I keep telling myself, this is the shampoo the Dominicans used in the salon, hmmh, I think I need some.:look:

I'm a PJ I can't help myself either. I have so much hair products it's a shame:lachen::lachen: I'm trying to gather what I NEED and nothing more but I keep buying what's the rave for the month. I'm one of those that can clearly go a year with out buying another shampoo or conditioner. i have products in everywhere. I need Intervention.:nono:

I started hanging out in the off topic forum. Hair became less important.
Cured my PJism.

Same here...now I'm a nail polish junkie. Hopefully this last shipment of polish will allow me to get over until Spring.

I'm a recovering PJ...now I'm just using everything up!

I knew I was a PJ when I started buying stuff that I could "maybe use in the future". Also when I would always end up in the hair product section of every store and always buy something even when I knew I would probably never use it.

For me, there were two signs; I could cross reference another store and/or website for a price comparison and compute shipping IN MY HEAD in about 2.56 seconds, and I end up w/a lot of unintentional double/triple purchases. I've cut WAY back but old habits do die hard.
