HELP!!! Hair breaking more 2 days after Aphogee 2 Step Treatment

I have used the Aphogee 2 step protein treatment before, but this time my hair seems to be breaking more than before I used it, and it is scaring me. I also relaxed my hair about 2 weeks ago. Did I make a mistake by using the Aphogee treatment so close to relaxing? What can I do now to halt this breakage? Thanks.

We need more info. Did you DC afterwards with your own mix or with the moisturizer/balancer that comes with it?

Did you apply a leave-in that may have had protein in it?

Did you follow the directions to the letter?

Is your hair thick or fine?

Dry, brittle, or soft?

Bumping for you! :yep:

Most people find this not moisturizing enough and they don't like it. I've used it and it was a waste of $$$$$. I don't recommend it.

Too many people have made this mistake, including myself. Here is Supergirlj's post that really helped me. I say try all three, but start with the one that doesn't have protein in it. Good luck!

And yes, I also did my aphogee 2 step a week after a fresh relaxer.

I am pretty sure I followed the directions to the letter. I sat under my hood dryer for about 50 minutes to make sure it was as hard as possible and spent 10 - 15 minutes rinsing it out of my hair.

I applied the Aphogee balancing moisturizer, which really does suck. Then I applied my usual Keracare Humecto Deep Conditioner, and sat under the dryer for 15 minutes. I washed that out then applied Keracare leave-in conditioner. Then rollerset and styled as usual.

My hair is fine, and is soft with a tedency to be dryer than normal.

Wow. Maybe you let it sit too long? I usually never go pass 30 mins. Also, i usually condition maybe 3x after i rinse it out then i do a dc for about 30 mins under the dryer. May sound like a lot, but that Aphogee doesn't play. Why don't you try dc'ing again with a really good thick moisturizer, that may work.

That's funny, I used my Humecto afterwards too. And I also have fine hair. I think Aphogee is just not good for fine hair.

Thank you!! Supergirl's post is really helpful.

Glad I could help!

Maybe your hair hates hardcore protein. I used to use hardcore Aphogee all the time, but stopped because I was getting more breakage after using it. I realized that my 4a/4b hair just really craved moiosture. I started using henna once in a while on my hiar. That's it.

Did you use a really good moisturizing conditioner after.......make sure it contains no protein at all.
co-sign, and really check because some will contain hydrolized proteins or other sorts. I had to look really hard to find non protein conditioners. So check really hard to make sure that the one that you get has none whatsoever.

I'm not relaxed, my avatar is about a week into a flat iron, so my hair doesn't take to protein anyways. But I've been studying some of the other relax ladies fokti and messages, as I've been considering going that route. Silver, the lady with the gorgeous thick long hair, has said she never uses hard core protein, just an egg mixed into her conditioner. So for future reference, if your hair hates protein, you might want to consider doing this. But for now, find a conditioner that is purely moisturizing. I thing aubrey organics at whole foods carries some (I usually by avocado conditioner from shescentit.com and I know that you need something asap), and I've used them in the past. Good luck!

I'm the exact same way. I used to do Aphogee every 6 weeks but I would get breakage after using it every single time. I was also making sure to deep condition with deep moisturizing conditioner. Now I use Joico Protien reconstructor after each touch up and there is not breakage after using it either. I deep condition all other times. I find that using less protien and using only as needed (not on a schedule) has done my hair a world of good!

OP, for now, I would focus on deep conditioning until your hair gets back to normal. Unless your hair is really damaged, I wouldn't advise using the 2 step protein treatment. There are other lighter proteins that would be beneficial to you. Good luck!
