Hair Folicle Test for Work

Would you cut off 3 inches of hair (a section of about 120 hairs) for a part time job?

When the girl told me how much I needed to cut, I politely left, but am thinking about returning next week as my employer said I could still go back.

I just have tried so hard to get my hair even...:nono:

I had to have a hair follicle test and they pulled out 10 strands with tweezers. I never heard of a follicle test that required cutting- they need the follicle to test.( The bulb at the root of your hair)

I am a senior in college and two years ago for an internship (that I really wanted), I had to take a drug test. I was expecting to do the standard pee in the cup but when I got there, the woman explained that they would be cutting a patch from my hair from the scalp. I freaked out. They took me into this white room with a small circular window and this guy cut some of my hair from the scalp. It was such a horrendous experience, I felt violated and those white walls really put me over the edge. I was crying and carrying on, and given that my hair was kind of looking a mess that day he probably thought I really had a problem.

It really was not that much hair though, the description I was given made it seem like I was going to be bald in a patch and I couldnt even find the section where they cut from afterward. If she really needs the job or it could be useful in getting here somewhere else, then I do not think she should let the test hold her back.

Do they realize how much DNA is in one strand of hair? They don't need that much hair to do the test...a few strands will do her fine.

True, but its not a DNA test (or I agree, they could have just taken a flake of my skin). Apparently very small amounts of drug byproducts, after your body processes it, can get into your follicle via the bloodstream. It can test for drugs done even 3 months ago.

StellaB- its ok that you were cracking up, the experience is funny in hindsight :yep:

Whisper "bleep boop" to yourself when you're sad.
If it was a full-time, lucrative job with great benefits and a good salary? Hell yeah!

For a PART-TIME job?!?! I'd tell them to kick rocks with open toed shoes on :yep:

sounds excessive to me. how many test do they need??? :ohwell:

I would only do that if it meant a real chance doing something i love and wanted to get into. but for a parttime job that you could end up quitting in a couple of months. nope...but you know more details so........

I had this done a couple of months ago. I sectioned off a piece of my hair for her to cut. I completely forgot about it until my hairdresser was straightening my hair this last time and ran across this shorter piece of hair. The lady who cut mine told me most people go crazy and start crying. She said I was the calmest person she had ever seen. I told her, "do you see all this hair on my head? Trust me, you are probably doing me a favor!!" I was fro'd out at the time but I know everyone doesn't have a mane like mine. Q

I applied for a job at a casino and got it. Well during registration, they needed to cut about 120 strands to test for drugs. I didn't want to do it but the job paid well and I really frustrated with my other job. The administrator even had a nerve to ask me if my hair was real because they needed real hair to cut :ohwell:. They cut straight across about 3'' from the nape. I was mortified and ended up quiting before I got a chance to start orientation a week later. Never again.
