I found An Organic Hair Care Ingredient List!!!!

I know alot of us at LHCF are avid label readers and are very informed consumers. Many of us want to ensure that our hair products are as natural and as less damaging to our hair as possible. Today I was looking up product ingredients, specifically MEA (ethanolamine) found in garnier blow dry profector product, and I came across a pretty interesting website Called the Saffron Rouge:

It has a comprehensive list of common ingredients used in beauty products. The good stuff is on the Green List, the bad stuff (by bad read "not organic") is on the Black list.

Look at the section entitled " The truth about ingredients"

I like these two list because it actually tells you what the product is used for. For example:

Cetyl Alcohol- its on the Green list. and its used for thickening
-This product is in my beloved Tressume Naturals and Aubrey Organics WC. This that explains how its so creamy and smooth although they are both cone free :)

The Green List™

Ingredients found on The Green List™ comply with all 12 principles of the Saffron Rouge Standard. This means that they are derived from natural sources, produced with natural processes, and are environmentally friendly. Green List™ ingredients are 100% natural and safe.
In cases where an ingredient can come from multiple sources, we seek additional information from the manufacturer. This allows us to ensure they are extracting the ingredients from appropriate sources, using natural methods and extraction agents.

The Black List™

http://www.saffronrouge.com/learn/ingredients/black-list

Ingredients found on The Black List™ do not meet one or more of the 12 principles that make up The Saffron Rouge Standard. Ingredients found on The Black List™ have health or environmental concerns, are synthetic, made from/or with petroleum, and/or are derived from harming animals.
In order to deliver the purest, most effective beauty products nature can offer, to protect your health as well as the health of our environment, we do not carry any products that contain Black List™ ingredients.

Now I am not championing this list as the "law" but its pretty cool :) It could serve as a nice reference point when checking labels of products you have at home. The site also lists and sells products that contain ingredients on the Green list. Many of these products are not super expensive either. I know I saw a Dr. Bronners conditioner listed for 7 bucks so it may be of some intrest to you ladies

Enjoy!!!!
