REAL hair descriptions --Spinoff of \"Hair Typing\"

This is mine, what's yours??? I honestly dont think alot of folks want to post their actual hair description and would rather fit into a "type" So this thread is for those who REALLY are confused about hair descriptions and want to describe their hair to others. You can use these simple guidelines to describe and even post a pic of your hair (new growth pics only please-- so that the natural state of your hair is easily seen) Thanks. Now this is pretty simple so the confusion should slow down some. Please feel free to post your hair's description (Shape, Density, Diameter, Elasticity) and a pic. Let me start it off.

Jainygirl -- Currently relaxed (description is of my natural hair/newgrowth)

Shape: "S" shaped pen spring size kinky hair-- (currently relaxed so this describes my new growth")

Density: Very dense, thick hair: (lots of hairs per square inch)

Diameter: Very thick strong strands

Elasticity: Great, when strand is removed and held on both ends and tugged, it bounces back without breaking. Must be pulled really hard with effort to break strand.

i had to open my blinds and let the sun hit it. Then i made sure i was against a light background so the contrast would bring it out

Texturized (description is of my natural hair before texturizing)

Shape: Deep S shaped waves, ringlets at the end

Density: Very dense, thick hair: (lots of hairs per square inch)

Diameter: Mix of Very Fine, Fine & Medium Strands

Elasticity: I have the great shrinking hair. It's incredibly elastic. Wet strands stretch 3-4 times the length they appear. Don't snap that easily.

My hair doesn't have any corseness, it's very, very soft and spongy. I call it cottony too, it feels like a downy cloud. It seems that it would be light and fluffy, but b/c the strands are fine they weigh down easily and the thickness probably gets in the way too.

Whatever type it is, it's mine and I love it!!!!

I'm currently natural...

Shape- Ummmm, round maybe? wavy/curly. Most of my head has curls the size of my fingers...with some as little as my pinky and some the size of my thumb.

Density- not very dense at all (at least not to me)

Diameter- EXTREMELY fine

Elasticity- It's okay, definitely stretches but will break after a couple of inches.

Re: REAL hair descriptions --Spinoff of \"Hair Typing\"

I'm also natural.

Shape - s-curls with different diameters, biggest at crown and back, smallest on the sides/temples, straightish in the back

Density - medium or fine, it used to be a lot thicker when I was younger (I'm 33 now)

Diameter - very thick, I have yet to meet someone with thicker hair strands than me.

Elasticity - good when I treat my hair right. My hair shrinks from about bra strap length (true length) to in between shoulders and bra strap (visible length).

I like this way of describing the hair!

Shape: big coils (coils not quite the diameter of a piece of sidewalk chalk, but close)

Density: LOTS of hair

Diameter: fine to medium

Elasticity: really good... it stretches a lot when I do the strand test and if I let go it goes back to it's original length.

Re: REAL hair descriptions --Spinoff of \"Hair Typing\"

Shape: Very curly at the roots looks like a small S shape, some places are wavey, my hair is str8 at the ends when wet they hang alittle, when dry, the ends dont curl if I dont comb them or put gel on them. Thats why I said my hair looks half relaxed/nappy..

Density: VERY thiCK

Diameter:very fine to course I HATE it!!(my spelling sucks)

Elasticity? Snap!! I'm kidding, my elasticity is good..

Sorry I dont really have any pics, I'm so bored with my hair right now.

Re: REAL hair descriptions --Spinoff of \"Hair Typing\"

I'm relaxed, but this describes my natural hair/new growth

Shape: It comes out of my head straight for a bit and then waves/curls up. Curls range from pencil size to fat marker size, but with the right amount of gel or mousse, they can be sidewalk chalk size to spray bottle size.

Density: Very dense, lots and lots of hairs per follicle (!)

Diameter: Thick

Elasticity: It's ok...could be better

I really don't like how thick my hair is, it is tooo much, and I'm still tenderheaded

Re: REAL hair descriptions --Spinoff of \"Hair Typing\"

Shape: loose pen springs when significantly grown out
Density: It's like a rainforest up in here...in other words, a whole lot!
Diameter: Thickness is an 8 on a scale of 0-10
Elasticity: Depends on the section of my hair, but over it would get a D-, it can stretch without breaking but definitely doesnt spring right back

My hair is natural.

Shape: silky, small spiral curls/coils,
Density: Medium, good amount of density
Diameter: Medium, not that thick, but not fine either
Elasticity: Great. Stretches and then springs right back into place, no breakage, high shrinkage

I think that stating wether it is 3c, 4a whatever along with that makes it easier atleast to me to get an idea of what your hair looks like. But I do agree that their are alot of hair types missing.

Reading the other definition I have come to the conclusion that my hair is spongey not cottony...thanks for listening

Re: REAL hair descriptions --Spinoff of \"Hair Typing\"

yeah, i would probably have to keep a drinking bottle filled with water with me and also a spray bottle for my hair if i ever go natural
my hair drinks up whatever i put on it. I hear people complain about the vaseline sticking their ends together but when i take my bun down in the morning it's all gone
i think my hair just guzzles down any kind of product.

Re: REAL hair descriptions --Spinoff of \"Hair Typing\"

natural hair:

shape: small coils and waves, looser curls around my nape and edges
density: thick
diameter: varied, I have fine and thick strands, when I looked closer I saw that they also vary in color, the thick strands are black and the fine strands are reddish brown
elasiticity: good, has improved but could be better

Re: REAL hair descriptions --Spinoff of \"Hair Typing\"

Shape: Pen sized coils
Density: thick
Strand size: thick
Elasticity: good (trying to improve this)
Hypersensitive to humidty.

Hair will only hold styles if I wet it then do it. Does this sound like anyone else's hair?
