Since so many ladies are still undecided.....my Pibbs experience at home w/ photos
My Pibbs dryer was delivered on Monday 1/21/08. My money order arrived at Imperial Sales on the Thursday prior and had been mailed from NYC that Tuesday via certified mail.
I had just washed and set my hair that weekend so I did not need to do my hair again. Tonight I decided to test out the Pibbs with a roller set at home - my 5th rollerset on my own. I have been under the Pibbs many times at the salon and knew it would speed my drying time. I used more rollers for this set than I have used with my past 4 self rollersets - 20 magnetic rollers this time.
I set the Pibbs timer to 30 minutes and I dried on medium (90 degree angle) for 5 minutes. It was too hot. I turned it to medium low (45 degree angle) and dried for 5 minutes and then I set it back to medium for the remaining 20 minutes. The heat stopped blowing after 28 minutes (I was watching the clock on my computer) but the timer was still ticking down.
I took out most of my front rollers and realized the back was slightly moist....not wet but moist. I rerolled the one test roller, reapplied my hair net (smushed my front curls a bit) and reset the dryer for 10 minutes longer. After 5 minutes I felt comfortable that I was fully dry. Using a dryer made such a difference versus my prior 4 self sets - all air dried sets.
So, after 35 minutes of drying under the Pibbs 512 and after 37 minutes of roller setting, the results are below. I am confident that I will get a bit faster at roller setting (and use larger rollers) which will likely speed up my drying time to 30 minutes or less. And once I get the hang of mesh rollers and those darn pins, I will probably dry in 25 minutes. And I did not have to set the dryer on "hell" like they normally do at the Domincan salon I frequent.
If you are new to self roller setting like me, my tip to avoid my mistake, test a roller from the rear for dryness and not the front. I had to reapply my hair net to finish drying and smushed my curls a bit. Also, if you can handle the medium heat without turning it down, you will probably dry in 30 minutes or less under the Pibbs with APL length hair.
