Hey Y'all, I was just letting you all know that I started cosmetology school this week, and already I am sooo pissed about all the lies they tell about hair, I have to keep my mouth closed a lot. I feel it is no use to try and teach some new hair truth to people who think they know everything. Today we started talking about black hair growth, triming, double processing, and all of that, some I could agree with, but ALOT of what they said could be blown out of the water just by them taking a look at the girls here on LHCF. WIsh me luck, and keep me encouraged, I am determined to be a hair growth specialist, also there are a lot of Dominican ladies in my class, and they are going to teach me how to perfect a dominican blow out, so I will probably be the only black stylist in Florida who knows how to do hair like dominicans..YEAH!!!!!!

awesome!!... there's nothing like learning the mechanics but being able to insert your own hair knowledge into the mix... and learning how to do a domincan blowout on top of the cosmetology knowledge will make an even more awesome bonus!!!

You're going to be a very good stylist and have a steady clientele with all of your knowledge that you're gaining here!

Congratulations and hang in there. I think it's a great opportunity to get the technical know-how and incorporate all the great information you've learned on the board to form your own special brand of hair care.

Congratulation! There will be some very lucky ladies in FL really soon. They will not have to worry about having their hair wacked or shreaded. Are you sure you don't want to move to Cali, after you finish that training?

I would imagine that that has to be hard but girl just keep your lips tight for now, get your license and then start helping sistas out with the truth! I swear my hair dresser never gave me DC's unless I was in desparate need and I am sure that I never had a protein treatment...and clarify?!?! Man, there is so much that I have learned that I try to pass on...

Congratulations! Now if we could just start giving out LHCF cosmetology scholarships we could slowly take over. What are some of the more blatant untruths you are running into? And what are the reactions of the other ladies?

Good luck!! How hard is it to keep silent when people you are paying to teach you are misguided about our hair. I'd burst a blood vessel trying to keep my mouth shut.

That is why a lot of Black stylists end up going to a school like Dudley after their regular cosmetology school. A lot of reg. cosmetology schools focus mainly on Caucasianesque hair unfortunately.

Also there were a lot of Dominicans in my school in NY, but they had to follow course curriculum and I didn't see all of the techniques that I did in the salon. My old stylist got her license directly from school in the Dominican Republic. In Florida it's basically like Latin America so it's probably fine for them to practice their way, which is really good for you :)

Good Luck and have fun!

Make us proud girl! Now what part of Florida do you live?

I'm in Orlando FLorida...I really appreciate the support, I'm also planning on being a hair growth educator, I think it's very important to educate, most black women look at me with this "yeah right" look on thier face when I tell them that any black woman can have atleast SL hair, they don't believe me...it's a shame, but I understand, cause I was in there shoes once.

Good luck! I wish I could go back to cosmetology school. I want to care for natural hair and be a makeup artist. Cos school will basically teach you the basic of parting, applying chemicals, sets, coloring, and cutting. What have you guys started doing? Are you learning how to cut with the razor?
