"That's it Braids, we're breaking up! You're just not good for me!"
I was on a personal Braided Up (no extensions) in 2011 challenge and with 1 month left to go I have realized that there are definite drawbacks to low maintenence styling.
The main drawback is MATTING! I keep my braids in for a month and at the end of that month when it's time to take my braids out, my hair is practically melded together. Especially if I've co-washed or rinsed them a few times. I hear way too many snaps for my liking when I'm un-melding my hair!
The other thing about braids is that there seems to be some wispiness created at the roots. Blurg! There's just no way to escape damage. I try so hard to avoid it but there it is.
My length hasn't suffered but i may have lost some thickness. I think I need to go back to once a week styling and switching up the styles more. I definitely won't be wearing my hair in braids for a while and I definitely won't be letting my hair matte up anymore!
