I want to start relaxing my hair at home but need help in sorting out a technique that works. I need a technique that:

- would not cause scalp burns
- would not cause under processed hair
- would not cause severe breakage

...any ideas?...can you ladies help me put a technique together?
...what is your method?

Lonei has a very informative method:

To prevent burning, I like using Ampro Pro-Styl Pre-Creme for sensitive scalp. To prevent damage, I have now started using CHI Silk Infusion, since silk protects against alkaline chemical damage. When I self relax now, I usually divide my hair into 4 sections and I start from the back. However, a couple times in the past I have parted my hair vertically down my head, going from left to right (like I would to grease or oil my scalp), and I would smooth the relaxer onto both sides of each part all the way down. I had really good results this way.
