Protein Based Moisturizers

Can anyone give a listing of good protein based moisturizers? Preferably ones that can be bought locally. Also does anyone have a recipe for making a protein moisturizer at home?
Thanks in advance.

Yes I suppose if a leave in can be used to give hair moisture. I heard Cantu Shea butter can be used as a moiturizer/leave in that contains protein. I was wondering what others brands people were using?

Aphogee ProVitamin leave in conditioner is a lightweight moisturizer with protein. I have used it as a leave in , its ok.

Profective Mega Growth Daily Leave in Strengthener is another moisturizer with protein

@*CherryPie* Now you have me doubting myself. Maybe I am confusing it with something else but when I had their shampoo I would use it the way I use Garnier Fructis--as a strengthening shampoo--when I had gone a long time w/o using protein. I apologize if I am talking out my ***. I will double check. (Told you I rarely study ingredients. :look: )

Nonie ,

Don't feel bad. You may be right. I'm just so confused. I'm trying to stay away from protein based products, and I love LTR. So i'm just hoping that it isn't protein based. lol

I use 2 packets of plain gelatin with about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of water, put it in the microwave for about 30 seconds and apply it simultaneously with my shampoo. It's a natural protein moisturizer. (it is better to do this with shampoo, I wouldn't use it with conditioner).

You can also do it as a pre-shampoo treatment but it blends better with shampoo.

*CherryPie* I just found the ingredients for HE Long Term on Walmart website and while it does have protein in it, it's a protein known for helping with increasing moisture content in hair by attracting water and it is also said to form a coating on the hair to protect it. I'm talking about hydrolyzed silk.

What are the benefits of Hydrolyzed Silk Protein?

HAIR CARE-Aids in moisture retention due to its strong hygroscopic properties (silk is credited with the ability to retain 10,000 times its weight in water), resulting in optimum conditioning and increased strength. Provides superior conditioning properties, making it ideal for natural-type conditioners, shampoos, and hair repairing systems. Links hair fibers to improve elasticity, resilience, and restore the moisture balance.

prettyhair73 I've never heard of using gelatin. You mean gelatin made from pig hooves as in "jello gelatin" Gelatin? That is so interesting. I definitely need to give that one a try. Thanks so much,

Yeah, plain old Knox gelatin. I got that recipe from a natural beauty book years ago. I did it every other shampoo when I had a relaxer.

But it's a great natural source of protein for hair.

I've used knox/gelatin before (since going natural) and i think it's good like the above poster says. But i think i used too much.I definitely will revisit it the way that was mentioned. You might want to mix the ltr with water and one/some of your favorite oils it's a great moisturizing combo on my natural type 4 hair. And i use it(ltr/from the bottle unmixed) to moisturize my flat ironed ends daily. There's also aphogee green tea restructurizer. I use it before I straighten and moisturize the ends with the ltr right out the bottle after I flat iron.
