WhoisSugar's wash and go tutorial!

Maybe she is type 4 but definitely has a little bit of 3c.

I tried a wash n go with a lot of Eco-Styler gel and look how my hair turned out (which I did not like because it looks anorexic). My hair is armpit length.

If she is type 4 only, what am I?

So if I had brastrap length hair, do you think my hair would stretch out and stay stretched after a few days like hers did?

to be honestPoohbeari have always thought of you as one of the few ''true'' 4as on here if we going off andre words

In regards to her using alot of product she has ALOT of hair and her texture can take it

a dime size amount of conditioner isnt going to do jack for my hair neither is applying a drop of gel for a wash and go:nono:

Yeah, see that's what I don't get . . . I use gel to actually keep my hair straight (on my edges mostly) so the idea of using it to create a wash-n-go (or as someone pointed out a wash-n-wear) that is just strange to me. Maybe once I have all natural hair (and am not dealing with relaxed ends) it will make more sense to me . . . .

It depends on the way you are applying it. If you are applying it on your edges and smoothing them down, yes they are going to lay flat. When people use gel for wash and goes they are using it for hold as well but usually they are applying other products with the gel to get the curly affect and in a downward motion. They are not smoothing the hair to their head trying to lay it down...if that makes any sense.

Your hair looks very similar to mine..what else did you use besides the Eco/styler? I think your wng looks fab btw!

That's the only thing I used in my hair was the EcoStyler Olive Oil Gel.

Thanks, but I didn't like it. And people at work looked at me crazy (which I really didn't care) but this style brought extra attention to them. Some would ask "did you cut your hair?" and "Is it matted together?" and one lady said "I would hate to have to detangle that later on". I didn't take offense to their comments but I hate attention and I hated this hair style. I couldn't do nothing else at the time since I did it in the morning and was running late for work.

I know you didn't take offense but how RUDE!! Asking if it's matted? Your hair looked gorgeous! (I hate to ask but could jealousy have been an aspect involved?)

As for type...the front and side definitely looks a bit looser than the back (is it longer or a different curl pattern to you?)

Yeah, I have been following Sug's journey since she was on Nappturality yeaaaaaaaaars ago and she had her blog. She is like a type 3/4 mix. Pooh is type 4a. You ever need to know what a straight up 4a looks like, look at Pooh.

Nice wash n go, but I believe her hair is either Type 3C or Type 3C/4A. Her hair doesn't shrink up tremendously like Type 4.

I definitely think she is a 4. Her hair looks like small waves as opposed to actual coils though.

I still think hair typing is more involved than just 3's and 4's.

I think silkiness, strand size, and shrinkage are major factors not just curl size or curl uniformity.

Also length of hair will have effect on the finished product.

She did a beautiful job a lot of work though. I hope once my hair reaches her length I will have the patience to do this.

song_of_serenity - Not sure if jealousy was involved, but it was an old white lady co-worker who asked about it being matted. And a light skinned black woman with Type 2/3 natural hair who works in a different department was the one that said she would hate to have to detangle it.

And yes, the front/top of my hair is looser (like a kinky straightish texture) than the crown, sides, and back. That's another reason why I hate wash n gos because I don't have a uniform coil patter all over.

I noticed. I think the front of your hair may be 4a with a mixture of 3c and the back a 4a texture. It hangs differently...

I believe Sugar is also, like the front of your hairm a 4a mixed with 3c...her coils look very much like the ones in the front of your hair...her length gives a bit more hang.

Double post due to lag but I'll add on here:
Has anyone actually done a wash and go where they washed and went? I mean no conditioner, oils, gel, nothing? I did once...it looked nice at the start :nono:but the frizz and tangling and dryness at the end of the day. Never again!

I don't have one bit of 3C in my hair! No ma'am! All my coils are tight.

Yep, back when my hair was shorter. Here's a couple of shots from 2006 with NO PRODUCT in my hair at all:

Thanks but not my wash n go. If y'all saw it in person, y'all would've been like my co-workers lookin' like "EEK!"

ooh so pretty! Did you experience any ssks, tangles and the like at the end of the day??

I don't think so. And I think that's because my hair was shorter back then.

really nice!
i love the look of wash & gos a lot of the time.

however, i'm too lazy for all of that gelling and smoothing and finger raking and shaking and scrunching and diffusing. phew. no ma'am.

dub post

when my hair was shorter yes...If I tried that now i dont even wanna know the words my hair would say to me If it could talk.... i'm sure i'd be every curse word in the book....

i've never been able to just rock a wash and go without a headband. my hair shrinks up at different rates :ohwell: the 4a sections curl up the 4b sections puff out...all in all my hair looks confused. i do like just spritzing with water in the morning after a wash and go but i don't know if i wanna go through alladat.

This is when I did a product free wash and go. I was at a shorter APL when I tried that and by the end of the day I learned my lesson. My scalp was sore for days.

I wish we could change the name of "wash-n-go". It's such a misnomer if I ever saw one.

Off Topic: There's another word with a similar or maybe the same meaning as misnomer. If anyone knows it please let me know. Thanks :).

I don't know where "wash-n-go" came from. I think it came from the false idea that naturally straight haired people can just hop out of the shower and go, though I never seen that in real life. :lachen:

Go to any gym, dorm room, etc and you will find white, Asian, Latino, etc women plugged in with the hair dryers, flat irons, and even weave + glue (yes, I've seen a white woman gluing hair in her hair at the gym locker room before). :lachen: I actually get out in less time than a LOT Of straight haired women I've seen.

Maybe whoissugar's style should really be considered a "wash-gel-n-go"???

I've heard wash-n-go's being referred to as shake-n-go's, that's if they shake instead of let it dry as-is.
