I did it.... (Pics and video)

Today made my 4 yr natural journey... I was looking at my hair... and was unhappy (actually have been quite unhappy for a while with my hair as some of you know) . Anyway, I decided I wanted to start my journey again.... Two options...

1. Cut it all off and start from scratch... heat damage, multiple lengths etc needed to go...
2. Relax it, enjoy my length for a bit... and transition...

I picked the latter... + I really needed a break from my hair... became a very unhealthy obsession.... and I wanted to feel like I had control of my hair and not the other way around... This will be fin.. considering I don't have too many expectations... Wash and DC weekly, Air dry, bun... Will keep using my existing products except they stop working..

When do I plan to transition? Depends on how my relaxed hair fairs.. If it does well, I'll ride it out for a yr or two... else, I start transitioning as soon as I get excited about hair again...

Hope you guys enjoy.

I captured the ENTIRE process on camera.... Here....

You hair looks nice. I know how you feel and struggled with the same decision and made a similar choice. I texlaxed. Enjoy it.

I think about relaxing sometime. I am getting braids on monday so I can ignore it.

It looks nice and shiny.

Questions:

Did you have to getva trim, if so how much?

What did you think your hair length was prior to relaxing? I ask because I stretch to CBL but I wonder if relaxed I will be even longer or if stretching is an adequate measure.

Yeah, I'm thinking of relaxing my hair. Because of the humidity in Chicago this past week, my hair was a HOT MESS (which isn't a good luck for Corporate America).

Nothing I did tamed the beast, gels, sabino, DCing, etc etc. Plus I have a big head so I have to wear bangs.

I may texlax, instead of relaxing....I don't know.

@diadall Yeah I got a trim.... It was less than one inch though..... I told them to only cut off the scraggly ends.. I didn't want layers or perfectly blunt cut....

You can see how they trimmed in my video...

Before relaxing, my hair was at BSB.... now I'm like 1 inch - .5 inches away from BSB so I hardly lost anything....

judy4all Aww I just watched all 22 minutes of footage and I must say, you look very happy. That is all that matters. Your hair looks great, is at a good length and you've got beautiful skin!

Your hubby is super supportive. Do he got a naija brother that's available? *wink* lol!!!

All the best on this new journey. My option is to go bald and I'm leaning heavily towards it.

ceecy29 lolol.... Thanks girl.... Going bald won't look right on me men... had to go with option 2...

Congrats on your decision Judy4all. I believe we should enjoy our hair and once the enjoyment is gone then something must be done.

The smile on your face clearly shows that you made the right decision :yep:. Your hair looks great and I'm so happy for you!

Congrats!

Where are you from I'm trying to place ur accent.

i would love to relax my hair again. If only it would magically revert back to natural when it comes time for a touch-up.

You have been struggling for a while. I am glad you were able to make a decision you were happy with. Congratulations on starting your new hair journey.

You look very happy. Enjoy your new hair. Just remember relaxed hair needs more protein( I think)

This was just a nicer way of cutting off all my hair... because that's what I essentially did.... I am especially proud cos I was able to get to a place where I could make such a drastic move without even flinching... It can get really hard especially if you spend as much time and energy on your hair and are so emotionally attached to it...

What excites me the most is that when I transition, I will have a brand new head of hair.... with the fact that I know what my hair likes/dislike, techniques, products etc... my new hair journey should go extremely well... I need to work on being patient, and allowing my hair to not be such a big deal.. get excited about hair stuff again and not be so nervous.....

Meanwhile, I'll keep my eye out on YT for styling options for my hair texture (lord knows I can't wear twists 24/7 all yr round) .... that was one of my biggest issues...

I'll miss being on challenges with you and NappyNelle :( (I promised myself to not join any challenges anymore. but we all know how that goes... I'm officially supposed to be away from LHCF for lent.. but I couldn't resist with my "changed" hair.... lol)

You have been struggling for a while. I am glad you were able to make a decision you were happy with. Congratulations on starting your new hair journey.

You look happy, your hair looks healthy, and those are the beginnings of a great healthy hair journey. Good for you! :) I hope you keep enjoying your hair.

Awww Judy!! I'll miss you on the natural side, but we can still be in challenges together! I know this decision has lifted a ton of weight off your shoulders and ultimately, your happiness is more important than the relaxed/natural debate. BTW, your hair looks great! Swang it, boo! :giggle:

As so many ppl have said already ... that big huge smile says it all. I glad you are happy with your hair :drunk:
