Rice Water?

What was your hair's response? What changes demonstrated to you that your hair loved it? I love trying processes that are inexpensive, easy to find and natural!

I started trialling FRW around Feb/March last year (from my calendar notes). As someone who doesn't use leave-ins and relies on wash day for moisture, my hair looked and felt more hydrated and the moisture and lasted for longer around this period. Coming out of Winter, I was also trialling unwhipped Shea butter on my ends (wasn't working for me that way). At the time, it was difficult for me to describe how rice water left my hair but I could see/feel that it was positive. I think Sharpened's description as a toner is great.

I used it on my face too.

So I've had a jar of rice water sitting on my counter for a couple months (don't judge me, I kept forgetting to use it).

I'd already drained the rice but just kept the water fermenting.

I washed, conditioned, and DC'd my hair and thought to use the rice water to rinse my hair.

OMG, when I opened the jar, the smell hit me like a semi truck :lachen: :lachen:

I rinsed my hair with the water but the smell was very potent so I rinsed with a lil more water then put a baggy on my hair and put my scarf on. I took the baggy off and just put some oil on my hair and put it up in a puff. It doesn't smell at all and my hair is very soft today. I'll style later when I get home from work. I will be making more but def won't let it sit that long again

So far it seems that most of the vids I’ve seen are relaxed women using it. A few naturals use it but I haven’t that many of their videos. Doesn’t the rice water do the same thing as a protein treatment?

I mean that's what they say it does. But I mostly notice that it smooths my strands. I don't really get that substantial strengthened feeling I get from a traditional protein Rx. Maybe it's an over time thing and I just don't notice.

One time I left mine out a long(er) time than normal and when I opened it, Gurl....I couldn't throw it away fast enough.:barf:......:roadrunner:

I'll never do that again. I haven't tried it again since then either.

I'll do it soon, I guess.:look:....:ohwell:

I loved it and as @Sharpened said, it was more of a 'toner' and it felt really good. A very nice Hair Rinse. But it did not have any sort of strengthening effect on my hair.

OK so I am back. I used the rice water after my deep conditioner. I didn't notice a major smell. I left it in my hair for 20 minutes under a plastic cap. It elongated my hair and my hair felt soft. When I rinsed it out I got nervous because it made my curls really tight and clumped together. But once I applied my LCO method, dentangling and blowing my hair was a breeze. I will continue to use it, next time before applying my deep conditioner.
