BC & LENGTH RETENTION

i would probably say yes but i wont be surtain until i take these braids out:scratchch
ive had them in for 2 weeks and i see a lot of new growth:yep:

Yes Ma'am !!!! I was so shocked because I never chopped it that short when I bc in the past ...I thins thats the easiest time to notice growth because even if your hair shrinks you still notice the growth because doing the BC is a drastic change so its more obvious unless youre someone who always kept their hair in a halle berry cut . Its very easy to retain lenght at that point IMO.

i would say yes. maybe its cause i can seriously see my lenght, (i have a twa, well now after just two months its just an afro) but i think i can attribute it to being natural. i think that this is the best thing ive done to my hair!

are you thinking about BCing? :spank: :look:

I know!!! :drunk: You are doing SO well with the transition without the BC (you're one of my transition inspirations....) I am looking at your FOTKI and pics thinking "She's been transtioning for over a year...I can, too." Are you getting bored or is the transtion getting old for you?

I'm not sure I understand your question, but I think I do.

I never had hair longer than bsl. I didn't retain past that length. I did the big chop and three years later I'm at hip length. I believe this is from quitting the relaxers, but there are too many different variables to be sure. I take better care of my hair now than I did back before I transitioned.

I've had no prolems, charting progess is easy and I'm right on target. Actually I'm .25" ahead of shedule!

I bc'd after transitioning for a year. My hair retain more length, got thicker, and darker after the bc.

My hair grew fast but I wore a lot of hats and scarves and when I did wear it out I wore a lot of shrunken fros. Once I did blew it with the blow dryer and comb I could see that I had retained a lot of length

I think it's easier to retain length after you BC because you don't have to worry about babying line of demarcation anymore. You don't have to worry about finding something that works on the natural hair AND relaxed hair. Your natural hair will be much stronger and you can really get to know what to expect of your hair once the relaxed ends are gone.

So, basically I think once the relaxed hair is gone your hair is stronger and therefore it's easier to retain length.

I am finding this to be true. The way I had to care for my relaxed hair is a great deal different than my natural hair. Now I have very little to no breakage or shedding at all.

Yes... I am for the same reasons GOINGNATURAL said...
I transitioned for a year... it's summer... it's hot... I just kind
of want to wash and go... I am bored with buns everyday...
I am seriously considering the BC now and my relaxed ends
are just :nono: compared to my natural hair. IDK IDK

It's been almost 3 months since my BC and I've noticed better retention, less shedding and almost no breakage.

I do the "shrunken wash n fro" daily and it seems to be working.

Gl whatever you decide, go with your gut.

me too. My mind keeps telling me to chop. Maybe its just me but some of the ladies that BC got GREAT length after a year. Anyone notice their hair growing faster AFTER the BC?

If only I didnt have a long head..:ohwell:

I could use less product and save money, get to see which my hair likes, get to see my natural texture....

UGH

and i have fat cheeks, so i feel the same way...i have BC'd before and the grow out phase from TWA to SL hair was not so cute on me... it did seem like my hair grew faster after the BC bc I could actually see the growth every month...with longer hair, it's harder for me to notice a difference month to month...

I just searched and saw a thread where this lady went from a TWA to APL in 18 months. OMFG. Now, if I could do that then ... :look:

It just wouldnt look right on me I dont think .
I could always wear one of those head wraps until it gets bigger...
um :ohwell:

Lauren450 had some hair on her head and she did the BC..guess what, she has hair on her head again, fast too!!! Her hair is beautiful. I don't know if you are familar with her but her hair is simply beautiful!! She did a Big BC compaired to the length she had while relaxed.

Personally, my hair is SO much happier that I did the BC, I don't regret it for one second. You have to go with your gut, I did and I haven't looked back.

Wait a couple three months on the MT then think about it... unless you are feeling daring.... Your last relaxer was in Oct? so you have about 4 inches of NG? 2 - 3 more months gets you one more inch + ...

I really need to stop thinking. Now im saying I can do it and just wear a head wrap since I need it for this summer internship anyway.

Im single and want to get a guy soon but er uh ...
and i want to "protect" my virgin hair with my relaxed hair but..

sigh

I feel the same way. It has only been 5 months for me. I cut my hair to SL to ease the wash and rollerset days. I was not going to do the major BC but I am going to think more and set a date. I would like to make it to one year but this transitioning is not my thing. I can't wait to wash my hair and go.....:yep:

See ... this is the reason why I'm going to BC in September. I wanted to hold out for two years, but I'm going to go ahead and do it at 18 months. It's a struggle every day not to BC right now!

18 months- you deserve an award! :cup: I have no patience, although 18 months is my goal.

Last time I BC'd I was pregnant, so my hair grew SO fast. It was back to where I chopped it from by the time my son was born...Not preggers now, and my hair growth rate is moving at a snail's pace...

Wow! So you've been through this before, eh? Cool! Perhaps we can be transitioning buddies! When was your last relaxer?
