Need Help! Relaxer left in for over an hour!! (Long)

Hey, I got a relaxer done today after years of being natural and then texturized.

I went to a salon., The stylist i go to is reputable and i've been going to him for over a year for my texurizers, etc, with no ill effects. With him, and my own home care, my hair has grown from just over shoulder length to brastrap.

Today, I decided that it was time for a relaxer, but i've been stretching for 8 months. I have like 4 different textures on my head that all decided to come together as one... I didn't think it was that bad, but he had a very hard time combing out my hair... WITH THE RELAXER IN IT...

added to the fact that i have alot of hair, so in the middle of my head, he ran out of relaxer, and had to open up and use a whole new tub on me.

All of the combing, the yanking, the pulling, the sighing, the new tub of relaxer, the switching of combs etc, meant the whole proceedure with the relaxer on ALL my hair took over an hour.

He was going to give me a protein treatment (motions CPR and peppermint oil), but i just wanted to get out.
So i went straight home and did my own treatment-Motions CPR and APHOGEE mixed together in a tub and slathered over my hair. I put a plastic cap on and it's been in my hair for 7 hours now.

I'm about to wash it out.

Has this happened to anyone else, and how did you fix it?
THe hair stylist said that as long as I did a treatment by tomorrow morning, there shouldn't be damage, but i'm leery.

Before anyone asks why didn't I get out of the chair, I say... man?! I had two tubs of relaxer in my head, and he's there yanking and pulling. I didn't know if i was coming or going at that point. lol:wallbash::rolleyes::nono::look:

Upside? My hair sure is pretty right now, but downside, i don't want it to fall out tomorrow....

Oh boy :perplexed I've not dealt with this before. i would not do any heat styling for a few weeks. Also, did you neutralize again to make sure all the perm is out?

Yeah, i know eh? Even i'm at a loss, and i've been here for how long?
lol
The man is really good about neutralizing, so he neutralized 4 times.

I don't use heat, so i'm good. I actually never use heat, and was just planning to have my hair in braid outs for the rest of the summer, interspersed with my wig.

oooh girl! I don't know about this. I'm hoping all goes well for you. Please keep us updated. *hugs*

LOLOLOL thanks for the support, i definitely will keep you all up to date on this..
I was just hoping for some responses before i go and wash out my hair.

:bighug: if you keep up the moisture in your hair it should be good, most horrific damage almost happens immediately so...

i think you'll be okay. what kind of relaxer did he use? i know some relaxers won't really damage even if you leave in for too long. good luck with everything.

After you rinse out your hair, just leave it alone.

At your next wash, balance out your moisture. Then I would use a protein conditioner followed by a moisture conditioner at every 3rd wash for atleast the next month or so.

Honestly, pre-LHCF I used to put relaxers for roots to tip for over an hour on my hair and never really had any problems. I would not recommend that to anyone though, my hair is quite thick and I used to maintain it at a healthy SL at that time. DC, moisturize, moisturize and you'll be fine. Take care :)

Ditto that. Not by any means the best way to treat your hair but I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. :yep:

Yikes! I don't have any advice, but just wanted to add my good vibes. You sound like you did all the right things. Keep us posted.

Everyone seems so calm, I am really scared for you. I am glad that you have things under control.

(((((((Hugs)))))) MetroQT, I sure wish he had done your hair in sections, at least two, knowing that you had so much hair, were doing a corrective, and had 8 months of new growth. But it's too late for that. I have a feeling you are going to be fine so long as you baby your hair for the next few months. Please come back and tell us how it looks after you rinse out your conditioner. And like Gymfreak said keep it low manipulation too.

ETA: after using all that protein, be sure to keep your hair moisturized.

Girl I am scared for you. I remember one time when I got a Jheri Curl and the woman left the stuff in my hair to long and I had bald patches. Maybe the Jheri curl and perm chemicals are different. Keep us posted.

The only thing I can add is do the least amount of manipulation you can. You are staying away from any hot styling tools so that is good also. Keep it up and away, at this point I would not put any type of barettes, hair jewelry, clips, wig or attachments to it either. Possibly create a daily spritz so that it is always a little damp or at least not bone dry.

I would create a regular reggie of DCing, protein and moisture for the next 2 months at least.

What type of relaxer was it lye or no lye that will determine if you need more moisture or protein if I remember correctly.

gasp! why didnt he just not do it when he saw the 'comb thru' issues and work on that first? and you have had Aphogee in your hair 7 hours? *bites off nails*

girl I really hope your hair is ok from all of this , I think you should follow up with lots of moisture and babying it alot!

Girl can you sue that salon??????????????????????????? Cause that was not right at all. Nooooooooo that was not right.

How does your hair look and feel now? Any breakage or other damage?

I honestly think your hair will be ok. You said the stylist is really good and he's been doing your hair for over a year right? I would think he knows what he's doing. I wouldnt worry about the time so much. You can't get a relaxer put in and smoothed in everyones head in the allotted 20 minutes. Those are just guidelines. Some heads take more time some heads take less. The thicker and coarser the hair, the longer it takes.

When I went from natural back to relaxed, it took 45 minutes, 2 jars of relaxer, and my hair still wasnt straight.

Don't worry I think that with good care : Moisturise when needed , deep co ....you will avoid problems , maybe low manip and low heat is better the first month , good luck .

He used.... Olive Oil.. I'm trying to remember the name..
It's in a green tub, called, Organics.. or Organic Elements.. anyone know what i'm talking about, they make the Hair mayonnaise line, and the Cholestrol with Tea tree oil..
well, They also make an olive oil relaxer...
He likes to use that on clients now, he says, because it's gentler on the hair...

I'm back everyone.
I washed my hair last night, and conked out.

Actually, I went back on my word...
I posted last night that I never use heat, and I won't be using heat,
but last night, while washing my hair out, something told me to do a deep aphogee treatment, and dry it on my hair with a hair dryer for 10 minutes.

I did.

I took a picture. This basically shows you what my hair looks like with the Aphogee protein treatment in my hair.... and what my hair looks like as of this morning.
lol. the same.

I rinsed my hair with Vatika oil after the treatment, and then conditioner washed with pantene. My hair actually feels... nice.

See what happen to you makes me worried that after my stretch the stylist will complain about why i stretched so long and then try to cut corners like puttin the relaxer on all of my hair.(which i will not allow to happen!)

Ooooh, IDK. I just hope that you don't have adverse reactions from it.

Me neither!!!!! I'm monitoring my hair carefully!

Ditto that. Not by any means the best way to treat your hair but I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. :yep:

YEP:yep: me too.
1 hour+ of relaxer time, 2 jars of relaxer, he wanted to use another one, but he was kinda mad... and my hair, as you can see above is definitely NOT STRAIGHT

To keep the hair from falling out, you need moisture moisture moisture. Make sure you do deep conditioning treatment w/ a humectant that has zero protein in it a couple times a week. I like Sally's Moisturizing Treatment. It's the only conditioner I use in my hair. Don't make the routine too complicated either, simple is best.

Lol, I got 3 or 4 inches... do what you have to do! I fully endorse stretching!
Don't let your stylist complain about nothing! it's your hair!

(just make sure your hair's not all tangled like mine is)

See. the thing is.. this guy knows my hair, and how tangled it ALWAYS gets.. i don't know what his problem was this time...
