Have y'all heard of the rule if you have short hair use a dime size of a given product, if you have long hair use a quarter to half dollar size of product.

Well I was making a youtube videos last night about how I deep condition my hair and what I do with my hair post shower. When I played it back I noticed I use a LOT of product... I just squeeze a lot on my hand or keep spraying and spraying, but it never feels like enough.

So if you care to watch the videos and see how much product I use. Is that normal? I feel like I'm uber wasteful... which is funny b/c I'm a PJ, so maybe its good I buy in bulk and have so many back ups.....

Honey, I don't know the meaning of "dime-sized." I also get confused when I hear nickels, quarters, half dollars, or silver dollars. I tend to work better with at least some golf or tennis balls. My hair would cuss me out if I tried something less than that. I wouldn't even worry about it. Now, off to watch your video.

I picked the last option, but for the most part I use way more than a dime size amout. If I'm using a heat protectant, that's pretty much the only time. And I'm sure that will change as my hair gets longer.

Uh yeah....I have to use a color mixing bowl full of conditioner to get all my hair adequately covered. half dollar size could cover some of my ends:nono:

I use more. That dime sized amount doesn't do **** on my super thick hair :look:. It might cover one side of it but not the whole thing.

When I BC'd, I was advised to use about a dime sized amount of castor oil. Later on, I thought castor oil was no longer working because my hair wasn't as moisturised as it used to be. I realised that it was because I hadn't been upping the amount as I was using as my hair grew.

I use also generously apply conditioner and heat protectant.

eta: I love your make-up in your video; you look great.

I'm heavy handed when it comes to my conditioners and moisturizers, but I am more conservative when I am using oils to seal my hair.

Umm....no. I use plenty of product - be it shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, whatever. When I look at my starting pic I just :nono:. This is what my hair looked like when I tried to be light-handed using hair products (dry, breaking, felt like straw) My hair needs too much moisture to be skimpy. :yep:

I use handfuls. My hair has to be saturated. When I detangle, I can use like 1/3 of a jar of coconut oil in one sitting. I don't like to put the comb to my hair until everything is lubricated and slippery.

There's no way a dime size amount of product can cover every strand on your head. Most of your hair is getting left out and will end up dry and breaking. I noticed that a lot of the people who say they use a dime sized amount of moisturizer/leave-in also seem to need trims on the regular.

If it's conditioners and/or oils, then I really pile it on. Especially if I'm cowashing and/or detangling. My hair would laugh at a "dime-sized amount".

Shampoos, I use sparingly...and only diluted.

Lustrasilk will not fall in this economic slowdown based solely on how many jars of cholesterol I buy. A dime sized bit would do maybe a square inch of my hair- lightly. I coat e v e r y strand

I don't even understand why they tell you to use dime or quarter size of a product. That is simply not enough to cover all the hair. Think about having to use a dime size amount of conditioner to deep condition your hair. Maybe, maybe, it will just cover your ends only. It certainly will not get to most of your hair.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I always wondered how everyone else was about to use dime sizes while I had to pile on more and more products. Turns out that they're not. :)

I use about 2 big dollops for my hair, especially with conditioner, and I don't feel like I'm wasting product.

I do use quarter size of sabino[from ng to a little past demarcation], and maybe a half dollar of shampoo diluted in color bottle. I automatically thought of conditioner, lol. I always thought they mean type one haired people when they say to use those amounts.
I use about dime size for moisturizer/oil on ends.

I use WAYYY Too Much of Everything. But I don't really consider it "wasteful." I guess I'm just heavy handed when it comes to using product.::spinning:

I don't use a lot of shampoo but I use a ton of my DC and leave-in products (especially after washing my hair). My hair soaks up everything so I need a nice, thick coat. It weighs my hair down but that doesn't bother me...I wear braidouts 95% of the time.
