What type of gel....

I have notice a lot of naturals are using gel to slick down hair.

What gel is being used?

I was reading another post about the buns.

I may give this a try.

Fantasia IC Sparkalites (clear, blue and green) all work very well for slicking hair back if you need gel. Aloe vera gel also works very well. If you have kinky curly curling custard, that will work too. My experience is any heavier product will work if you tie it down long enough. If your hair is long enough, even a thicker conditioner should work.

Ok thanks I will have to try that when my hair is out .I am thinking about a phony afro bun or weave. I can't decide, but now I know what to get.

At first I was think you all were talking about that gel junk that hardens the hair. LoL.

Cosign the bolded. If the conditioner is thick enough my hair will lay down once tied. I mean I still get waves but its slick, no bulk, no frizz. I usually tie my hair down over night.

Are you all putting the gel on the hair wet or dry? at day, night or only when you go to put it up in the bun?

I typically apply gel to damp hair, not wet hair, because I have to use too much product and it takes too long to dry if it's too wet. If I rinse or cowash at night (leaving in my conditioner), I will put my hair in a couple of ponys to allow it to mostly dry (or at least half way) and then in the AM brush into place and add gel and brush again until it's smoothed. I've also done it on dry hair too, but I prefer the damp because it dries just as soft as can be this way. This is just my experience, I'm sure other ladies will chime in for what works for them.

i dont really use gel too often.

i bought some of the garnier fructis wet and shine gel (i think that's the name) not too long ago to try out, but i dont think i like it.

i did have a dream that i was using gel on my hair yesterday, though.

I mix my fantasia gel with grape seed oil, aloe vera gel, and vitamin e gel. It takes away the crunch and someone said it was a bootleg recipe for Miss Jessie's CP. Works for really good curl def. and it stretches the amount of gel I have. I longer have to use a lot of gel like before.

I like Fantasia Frizz Buster Straightening Gel for laying down my edges. I apply it on wet hair.

Fantasia(blue) Hands down for me!

Does anyone experience buildup with Fantasia gel?

I don't experience any buildup at all. Mainly if I've put the gel on one day, then it's like dull or dry the next(if I don't put my scarf on), I just only spritz a lil water on it to reactivate the product. Sometimes I'll even layer a moisturizer first then apply the gel on top. But I don't get any buildup from what I can see.

My favorite gel is ORS Twist and Lock gel because it does not get hard. It makes my hair shiny and doesn't flake. I only use a tad bit on top of healthy hair butter.
