When I was a little younger I could go 3 months or so, Getting braids now and can't go too far past 2 months, so very tender headed :perplexed especially the top of my head. Gonna try for 3 months this winter, colder months. Also my cleans clears up when I relax my hair :yep:. Any tips on styles and over-all hair health during stretches

6 months! I'm glad I did it. My scalp is so much healthier because of it... I was on the natural texture challenge at the time. I am thinking about not relaxing this summer and seeing how things go. My last touch up was in March.

6 months! My last relaxer was in December, and I just relaxed on Monday. I don't know if I will go 6 months again, but I might go 4.

I am in the midst of 24 week stretch now; I don't know what I was/am thinking because this NG is a beast!

how did you style your hair during your stretch?

that question is for the resst of you long stretchers also

I started out going to Dominican salons every 2 weeks, but I noticed some breakage so I went back to doing it myself. I co-washed and bunned mostly, but every so often I'd wash and flatiron and leave it alone for a week.

When I get my touch-up next week, it will be 3 days shy of 18 weeks and I will not be trying that again ANYTIME soon:wallbash: The shedding/detangling has been ridiculous and I really don't see the purpose at this point. My hair looks completely jacked up:ohwell:. Only braid-outs are working right now, but b/c I work out they fall and then I have to redo them nightly (too much manipulation). From now on I'll be keeping it between 12-14 weeks

Here is a tip that helps a ton during stretching. When you wash/detangle your hair, part it into 4 sections with your hands and braid each section(before getting in shower). Wash each section one at a time. When finished with the first section rinse shapoo out and then apply conditioner and braid back up. Keep doing this until all of your sections are covered with conditioner. Some kind of way pin or use a pony tail holder to hold your braids on top of your head while you bathe to let the conditioner sit a little while. Afterwards take hair down and unbraid hair hold hair under water and detangle from the bottom with a shower comb. This has really worked for me and I never get breakage from stretching. HTH!

Weeks 1-12, I rollerset (sometimes airdry, under dryer, or a combination of both) weekly.

Weeks 12-19, I airdried with a scarf, flat-ironed, biweekly.

Weeks, 20-24, I did a spiral one week, and braidouts weekly thereafter.

I agree with MariposaSexyGirl. :yep: That is exactly how I wash my hair and my two daughters. I learned that technique of washing on www.growafrohairlong.com, where Robin, the site owner talks about her Crown and Glory methods.

The longest stretch I had was six months. During one of those months I had individual braid extentions. I have MNT (Mane 'n Tail) products and my flat iron to thank.

Mariposa, my hair is growing into a sharp V, with a million layers. My goal is to shape into a wide, thicker U shape like yours. How often do you wash? Airdry or dryer? And did it just grow that way or did you trim as you grew?

11 weeks was my longest...

but i am thinking of going 12-16 this time around. (currently at 5)

I'm taking garlic pills to combat the shedding I got with the OCT---so i'm curious to see if that'll help with the increased shedding from stretching as well....probably:yep:

I will pm you..:yep:

Thanks.

Sorry OP for hijacking the thread. I have been meaning to ask MIG about her regimen and the thought popped up when I saw her gorgeous siggy.

To add to this thread, another great thing that helped me get through long stretches is prepooing with oil, condish, or both. Sometimes I add coconut milk and honey to the mix, and concentrate on stubborn new growth, and of course on the ends. Most times I prepoo with heat, and this really helps soften the NG.

Lately, I have incorporated steam treatments with my DCs, and that has helped also.

22 weeks. My hair was nuts because I stopped detangling really well. My hair broke a lot, and I won't stretch that long again. I think 12-14 weeks is sufficient for me.

gone post!
i wanna know to... prolly others

Well girl my regi is in my fotki but I wil give a short version

I normally wash 2 times a week

I wear my hair straight for a week(via fat iron after airdrying or Rollersetting{which I don't do that often now})When I say week I mean until my next wash :look:.

After I wear my hair straight I feel guilty lol so the next week I will co-wash everyday for the whole week and wear my hair in wet buns.

And oh I also deep condish before wearing my hair straight. I use ORS replinishing mask. That stuff if the ish lol.

The better verson is in my fotki though folks:grin:

Just curious why? Hope you don't mind me asking. My longest stretch in the past has been 13 wks/5days. I am currently 13 wks 4 days into a 14 week stretch and contemplating 15 wks. So far so good...I am nervous and taking it one wash at a time. I don't want any unexpected surprises. Just curious what the experience was for others that have stretched this long. I am 4bzzz by the way. TIA

Sorry Rapunzel...I'm just now seeing your post.

A couple years ago, I stretched for 14 weeks. Although I thoroughly detangled my hair once per week, my hair had still developed tangles. There was even a section that had matted. I'm a self-relaxer, and I struggled through my touchup, trying to limit application/smoothing time while not ripping all my hair out in the process.

So, I asked myself, why do I even bother to stretch? Overlapping?...Not a problem because I drench my previously-relaxed ends with oil and usually have at least an inch of new growth, which is enough for me. Reduced chemical exposure?...Not a concern because since I texlax, the relaxer creme is rinsed off in about 12 minutes. Extra thickness?...Again, not a concern because since I texlax, I still have plenty of texture, strength and thickness.

Consequently, I am no longer a stretcher. I texlax every 8 weeks.
