Ayurveda users how long is enough to keep oil and powder paste in hair?

I currently leave the oil in my hair for 3hrs (I don't like sleeping with it) and the paste for 1hr.

My current regimen is:
-- Oil in hair - leave in for 3hrs
-- Wash with Shikakai, Amla, and one other conditioning powder (Maka or rose petal) and apply regular conditioner - 20mins
-- Apply paste of Brahmi, and two other powders I didn't use above (fenugreek or Maka or rose petal), then rinse out. I interchange this weekly. - I leave it in for 1hr
-- Apply deep conditioner - 20mins
-- Rollerset and dry - over 2hrs

Is this good?

I'm planning to dye my hair soon with Henna with Amla (I can't find Indigo here), how do I modify the above regimen to add the dye process?

Thanks.

hi NYDee!

as far as the timing, everything you're doing sounds good!

i know many people who leave their mixes on for hours while they're doing other things and as i understand it, as long as you're not using the stronger powders (like aritha, for example), even up to 4 hours will not be harmful.

a tweak you might like to try is to add your conditioner to your pastes.

this is something i do all the time and it gives you both benifits at the same time.

as far as the hair dye, i haven't a clue because i don't currently use the dyes.

maybe some other ladies will share their experiences and here are some threads that might help, too:

Great links Grow! I agree, what you're doing is fine. I've left powders in my hair up to 3-4hrs before. The longest w/ Aritha was like 2hrs I believe with no bad results. I dont' make a habit of that though (leaving aritha in forever like that)

I tried to sleep with the oil again and even though I used towel to cover my pillow the oil still got through. I really like the result though, it felt so soft.

When you are using Henna for coloring purposes, it is best to leave in the hair for 8 hours...otherwise it might be a lighter color than you intend it to be. I put a plastic cap over my head, then a scarf, and I sleep in it and rinse out in the morning.

Your other ayurvedic regimen sounds good.

I tend to henna my hair with alma oil on the weekends. For example, on a Saturday or Sunday morning, I will put it in my hair and don't wash it out till later that night. My hair has a lot of body for days when doing this.

thanks for the post, but i'm not quite clear on this.

when you say you henna with amla oil, do you mean the only ingredient you add to your henna is amla oil? (as opposed to lemon juice, mayonaise, coconut milk, honey, etc...)

thanks for the clarification!
