Braids for a fragile hairline??

It's starting to get cool, and I'm starting to think about braiding my hair up to keep it away from the winter winds.
I'm PARANOID however, about getting braids done that are terminally tight on my hairline - ya'll know how some braiders do, pulling the edges so tight that you look like the Joker with your face stuck in a permanent smile
So, I'm trying to figure out what the BEST type of braids/extensions would be. I've debated back and forth with myself, and I've firmly decided that I am not/cannot get a weave or cornrow my hair and wear a wig on top - so I'm stuck with braids of some sort.
I was thinking about crochet braids, but unless the technique has improved significantly over the last 5 years - um, no.
I LOVED microbraids when I used to get them, but between them and the tiny, tiny locs I had around my hairline, my hairline is still recovering, so I'm not trying to do THAT again.
I'm thinking that I might try kinky twists, or maybe some nice medium sized braids.
I'd like for whatever I get to last 6-8 weeks.....

Any other ideas, ladies?
