Ok, so I have read the BT threads and the alpopecia threads...I have yet to discover it if BT cures androgenic alopecia? If so, Will I have to use this for the rest of my life to retain the growth like rogine?

androgenic alopecia for the moment b/c I will overcome this! I have yet to start a regimen besides rogaine and OCT/MT. I will like to start BT, waist length cocktails, Ovation product line/ MT, vitamins, DHT blocker (what are the good ones?) and weave challenge!!! I have

All thoughts and opinions will help.. Thanks :0)

I would stay away from weaves or any kind of style that will caused tension on the hair foilicles. I'm not sure if BT will help w/ androgenic alopecia but it never hurts to try. I would advise not to take or do more than one growth aide b/c it may cause a reaction. Try taking vitamins such as gnc be beautiful hair-skin-nails formula b/c it has biotin (3000 mcg) and msm (100mg) and Nature's Made Stress b-complex formula (not the super b-complex) b/c high level of vitamin C along w/ other b vitamins and also a small amount of biotin as well. Also be patient b/c you may notice results right away try to do this for about 6 months to gauge the results. I hope this helps.

I co-sign staying away from the weaves. The fact that you already have lasting damage from them should tell you that maybe your follicles and weaves do not get along. Everyone is different and we can tolerate different things.

Thank u ladies! i will most diff start with those vitamins.

for clarification, androgenic alopecia is hormonal not from braids and weaves. that is called traction alopecia.

thanks

Androgenic alopecia may be hormonal, but applying tension to your hair when alot of your hair strands are already very weak can lead to your alopecia getting worse. Im sure if you go to an alopecia specialist they will say the same thing to you. What you need to do is try to give your whole head of hair a rest from any prolonged tension and up your vitamin intake. The drink your way to waistlength hair challenege is good and maybe also research other options.

AgapeQueen, your morale alone leaves no doubt that you WILL overcome alopecia. So, now, it's just a matter of finding your route.

Try the waistlength cocktail - it has definitely worked for many of us, including moi. Take l-cysteine, about 2000 mg, it is Heaven-sent. I'd avoid weaves for now, and just try to leave my hair and scalp alone. Stay away from shampoos, cowash and try mn/sulfur 8 mix on your scalp.

Take pictures to track your progress. Don't try too many things at once, you wont know what works and what doesn't. Once you try something, give it a few months to work before moving on (i should know, lol).

I haven't suffered from alopecia but a few years ago BT did expand my hairline where I hadn't even realized I stressed too much and had lost. All I know is after about 6 months of regular use I got a touch up and I had a new hairline that looked like I got an edge up with sideburns. I don't know if that counts but it did grow hair on my head that wasn't there anymore.

Good luck to you! Stay encouraged and determined!

I like your spirit Agape Queen- I am just gonna give it to you straight- stay far away from weaves. period.

For our less follicle challenged sisters, weaves can be a great protective style, but for us not so much.

I was diagnosed with androgenetic alopecia in 2007- and please believe me when I tell you that weaves made a bad situation worse.

You want to opt for a tension free protective styles.

What has worked for me is:

Spironolactone(Dht Blocker)- prescribed by my Derm, it can be somewhat controversial in some circles- but I can honestly say that I really think I would be bald by now if it wasn't for this drug. This for me has stabilized my hair loss.

My density admittedly is not as good as I would like it to be, my derm said that Rogaine would help with density, but my scalp said "no thanks" to Rogaine- and I never looked back. I stick with natural oils like coconut or my favorite, which is JBCO.

MSM- has been really helpful, I feel like this is the one thing that curbed my excessive shedding. I also take a multi(Country life Maxi Hair), this has increased my growth rate, btw. I also take a garlic capsule, and Vitamin D because I was deficient in it.

Another Dht blocker that is otc is Saw Palmetto( I have no experience with it though)

Have you tried half wigs or a full wig for hair styles instead of weaves? There are lots of YouTube videos on how to make them look very natural. Please avoid weaves, I have tried twice with thin hair and both times it made a bad situation awful!

My hair falls out often, due to lupus. It is not hormonal but usually stress related. It does grow back but, never as quickly as I would like. SelfStyled mentioned most of the things I have tried (I did not try the DHT prescription) except Biotin hair products. The shampoo has a DHT blocker in it and I have found the shampoo and scalp therapy very helpful on several occasions.

I do BKT and it has been heaven sent. I put a color rinse/cellophane on my hair them apply the BKT a day or so later. The color helps buld my hair up and the BKT locks it in. I'm sure you read that in the thread.

I know it is stressful and heartbreaking to loose hair but, stay positive and dont give up. You can do it.

IA w/ grnid- half wigs have my very helpful for me, but I also bun, and I do lots of french braids. I like to mix it up so I don't get bored. I am not natural, but texlaxed visit my fotki if you need any style help.

I hear you on the heat thing- since you like to wear your hair straight, maybe texlax every 4 months might be a good option for you. That way you can reduce the heat.

Thanks for posting this thread. I'm going to subscribe. I haven't been on LHCF for months because it was just too depressing. My hair has thinned to the point where it is useless to keep trying to style it and I wear wigs daily. All that hair in my siggy pic is gone... I cut it the hell off out of anger and frustration. There is just no point in having hair down to your *** if your scalp is showing through it everywhere.

I'm just now getting motivated to try again to reverse my alopecia, but as three dermatologists cannot find a reason (even with a scalp biopsy), I'm kind of fighting blind. I know, like you, though that styling is probably not the culprit. I've been natural since sophomore year of high school and have had braids maybe 5 times in life and a weave exactly twice. Good luck with your battle and hopefully something will work for me too.
