Can someone explain the hairtypes a bit more?

I understand the number/letter combo, but with some of you I see things like "ii" - what does that stand for? I THINK I am 4a/3c combo. My hair is curly in the back, more wire-like in the front. I am 3C under Andre with thick coarse curly hair..What symbols do I use for that? Is 3CCiii okay?
