I love the fact that you asked for a trim and that's exactly what she gave you

Love the pics, I also use the Design essentials blow dry & leave in conditioner & love it, love it. Love the serum too. Unfortunately I also love the creamy crack, but your hair is beautiful.

Thanks again to all of you! I'm really glad you like it. I was so worried about trimming and the heat but LHCF led me to Portia!

She did a great job.
Your hair came out very pretty.
Will you self texlax since she doesn't do relaxers or are you transitioning?
How do you combat reversion? My hair reverts while I am flat ironing it, I am trying not to give up. lol

I don't live in Atlanta anymore so I won't be seeing her on a regular. I am a diyer all they way. I think I am going to transition because even though my hair is very healthy I can't ignore how much healthier my natural roots look compared to the processed ends.

Gorgeous...simply gorgeous!
ETA: do you mind me asking what brand flat iron and blow dryer she used?
tia,
tishee

I will have to ask her what blowdryer she uses. She generally uses and FHI but was talking about how Sally's GVP flatiron uses the same patent so she tried it (because she said that she has to replace her FHI to often) for 4 months before she would recommend it to her clients and she really loves it so that is what she used.

Nice curls. Are you transitioning. Your hair looks natural already.

I think I will. I love lots of texture and initially texlaxed out of frustration, kept texaxing for manageability, but then my hair got so much better from using henna and I was texlaxing for more length. But never wear my hair out curly so I think it makes sense to transition I just need to get my head around it to be honest.

Wow girl your hair looks GREAT! I didn't expect the length at all, each pic was like a little surprise, lol. Your hair looks very healthy, congrats.

This was a big occasion for me so while I was in the shampoo bowl I told Portia that I wanted to take pics and she was definitely cool with that - and took the pics. She has lots more on her phone that I am trying to get her to post because she really is a textured hair specialist.

She told me she has had clients break down in tears because they thought that they had "bad hair" that could never look as beautiful as she makes them look. Portia is on a mission to educate women about their natural hair. So I <3 her for plenty of great reasons.

What a great job! Thanks for sharing the whole process with us esp. the tips on drying the hair with heat. I'd love to visit her too, (but Bermuda?? YIKES) Your hair is beautiful though. Congrats on your progess too.

Yes Bermuda. Super humidity. I travel to ATL a lot though. Portia is in East Point (basically metro Atlanta if you are not familiar with the area).

This post deserves more than a thanks because Portia really is phenomenal. She encouraged me to say my hair was perfect and told me to stop saying that I have a problem area because she believes in positive thinking which I totally dig. She also mentioned that she thinks that head shapes can create "special spots" (my new phrase - problems no more!) and that is a factor I hadn't even considered. Finally a stylist who taught me somethings!

Before Blowdrying

After flat ironing to straighten and before flat ironing for the curls

LOL. I think from an education point of view it makes sense to call the process hydration because people know that it is good to not be dehydrated but maybe don't know what the steam can do for hair. But I know I will steam before straightening from now on because my hair isn't dry at all.

I'm going to invest in a Hair Steamer. I haven't used one yet, but it sounds like everyone says its great for moisture retention.

I realized I didn't fully answer your question. I have been taking the ankle express since I forgot to bring my license with me on this trip so I have experienced some reversion from sweating but I have been using the scarf method to straighten it out at night with great success. Portia did all the work to prevent reversion and said that I can get straighter results as my hair gets used to being straightened. I added a few tips in my OP but she could probably answer that better than I can.

I think that I will touch up with a blow dryer, or flat iron if I get one, when I get back to Bermuda.
