Here's todays long hair growth tip:

How many times have you run out of shampoo and used
soap or dish washing liquid? Before I learned about
this, I couldn't tell you how many times I've done
it. Well that is a serious no no. The reason is
pH. pH is measured on a scale from 0 to 14. Zero
is acid and 14 is alkaline. The pH is our hair is
normally between 4 and 6 which means it is more
acidic.

Soaps and dishwashing liquids are more alkaline. That
is what causes them to lather a lot. Using a shampoo
or other product with the wrong pH strips the hair of
the natural oils. Products that say they are pH
balanced mean the level is between 4 and 6 like our hair.

If you can't find a mention of the actual level on
the label, just make sure the product is for dry hair,
damaged hair, color treated hair, chemically treated
hair, or dandruff.

Straightening combs

The most incredible invention made by Madame C.J. Walker.
If she had not invented the straightening comb, we would
not know hair care as it is today. People's hair grew
using her "hot comb" and they thought it was a miracle. The
real reason, people also applied a lot of oil to the hair
when pressing. It was actually the oils helping keep the hair
from being over processed, burned off, or dried out that
helped the hair grow.

But what about the straightening comb today? Not as many
people use it as when I was growing up. I still own one.
I used to use it on new growth when I can't get a touch up.
I guess I'm still guilty of that no no. But it is on my
big red list of things not do anymore. For those who
chose straightening combs over the relaxer, it is not
such a bad thing. One thing we must accept before using
any appliance that getting our hair real straight is not
good for it. It is best to keep the hair straight enough
to look good but not so straight that you have stripped
every bit of oil out of it to get it that way.

If you decide to use a straightening comb, make sure your
never let it get too hot. Don't leave it sitting on the
heat for more than 5 minutes and always test it on a piece
of paper towel before putting it on your hair. If it
starts to burn the towel, leaving a brown mark, don't
put it on your hair. Let it cool down and try the
test again.

Thanks for the great tip on the straigtening comb, I never thought to use a paper towel to test the temp of it. I am not using heat right now, but when I do I will use this tip.

Thanks
